#SPOTLIGHTSUNDAY with @hannahh.schmitz & @reilywelsh who recently served in Peru and the Dominican Republic through the @mizzougmt program!🗺️🩺

Hannah returned from Lima, Peru last week and is thankful for this trip because “it gave me the chance to experience healthcare in a completely new way, learn from so many amazing people, and see firsthand the impact that service can have on a community. I am especially grateful for everyone I met throughout the week, from the people I traveled with to the families and individuals who welcomed us with so much kindness. I learned so much from this experience not only about healthcare but also about compassion, teamwork, and the importance of showing up for others. This is a trip I will always be thankful for and an experience I will never forget!”

Reily visited the Dominican Republic and loved the opportunity to “learn not only from the physicians I worked alongside, but also from my peers. Providing free healthcare to individuals in the Dominican Republic was especially meaningful because many patients face significant barriers to accessing medical care. Despite these challenges, they remained incredibly grateful, positive, and resilient. This experience showed me how fortunate I am to have healthcare readily available and reminded me to appreciate the opportunities and resources I often take for granted! It also taught me that gratitude and kindness can have a powerful impact, regardless of where we are in the world”

We are so proud of our sisters for their campus engagement and exploring outside experiences! You are such role models in and outside this chapter🩵

- Galatians 5:13 -
“By love, serve one another.”

This was truly the experience of a lifetime. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to learn and serve communities in Peru by providing medical and dental care to people of all ages and walks of life. Everyone was beyond welcoming, and their work ethic and tenacity was SO inspiring! I will carry their stories with me for the rest of my life, along with the friendships and relationships built along the way!

Every patient I met on this trip will always hold a special place in my heart. This experience changed me and broadened my perspective in ways words can hardly describe. I’m incredibly grateful to the people of rural Peru for trusting us with their care and for welcoming us with such warmth and kindness. Each doctor, translator, and guide taught me valuable skills and gave me a deeper understanding of both medicine and humanity. I was also lucky enough to meet so many amazing new friends along the way. Thank you, Mizzou GMT, for making this unforgettable experience possible 💛
