For our Exec Spotlight this week, meet our Communications Director ✨Shanley Silvey✨

Shanley is a Senior from Columbia, Missouri studying Strategic Communications and Political Science with minors in Constitutional Democracy and Spanish. Shanley joined ASUM this year to encourage Mizzou students to get involved in important advocacy issues like voting and to help ASUM gain more members through social media efforts. Outside of ASUM, she is extremely involved in Mizzou Mock Trial and serves as one of the team captains. After Shanley graduates in the Spring, she will attend law school!

With that, I have nothing further your honor…

I can’t express my gratitude enough for this organization and the people in it. The four years I spent with @mizzoumocktrial was the highlight of my undergraduate career. I’ve made some of best friends here that I’m so grateful I’ve had by my side. There are so many people I want to thank for making this journey a great one but none more than specifically @erincreynolds and @shanley_silvey. They were the best leaders I could have asked for and so supportive. Leaving this team will be one of the hardest parts of senior year and I’m sending my love and thanks to everyone on the org❤️

Congratulations to Becca Wells and Thomas Kiley for winning their region of the National Trial Competition (NTC) and advancing to Nationals in April! Becca and Thomas defeated several strong teams along their path to victory, and we are so proud of them for their dedication and success. Becca and Thomas were coached by Fiona Puglese ‘20 and Dylan Elliott ‘20, and Becca was also named an Outstanding Advocate for the tournament.

Our second NTC team of Anne Moruzzi, Sydney Branch, and Gus Glazov also had a strong weekend and we are extremely proud of them as well! Anne, Sydney, and Gus had one of the most difficult schedules at the tournament and still came extremely close to advancing. They were coached by Hannah Coffin ‘20 and Kris Vicencio.

Finally, we had the privilege of hosting our NTC region this past weekend at Maryland Carey Law, and we are so grateful to the many alumni of the Trial Team and Maryland who returned to judge and support the competition. Hosting NTC would not have been possible without the amazing support of the local legal community and the Maryland Carey Law administration, and we are thankful to everyone who pitched in to make this event such a success.

And another congratulations is in order for Katie Wang who won her 3rd straight witness award! Go Katie!
