Marina Khidekel, @entreprenista100 award winner, built @hugimals as a solo founder from her living room in New York City in 2022. The opportunity started with an inbound email that landed in her inbox as she boarded a flight home from a trade show. Today we're celebrating Marina Khidekel 🤍 Marina built @hugimals around a simple, powerful idea: that a weighted stuffed animal could help an anxious kid feel calm and safe enough to actually sleep. Then she put it in the arms of families everywhere and grew it into a seven-figure brand in its first year. Completely bootstrapped. This week, she sold it. Less than 1% of business exits are fully female founded, and today there's one more, belonging to a founder whose product genuinely makes kids' lives softer. At a recent speaking event, I introduced myself the way many of us do- with my professional titles. Psychologist. Author. Speaker. And then I added a few titles that don’t typically make it into most formal introductions: Mom. Wife. Sister. Daughter. It was a reminder that while our careers, accomplishments, and credentials are important, they are only one part of our identity. In a world that often measures us by what we do, it’s easy to forget who we are beyond our work. We are the people we love. The relationships we nurture. The values we live by. The lives we touch every day. Our jobs may describe what we do, but they don’t define our worth. You are so much more than your title.
