It’s a shallow life that doesn’t give a person a few scars | Garrison Keillor

Recently Dawson asked why I usually have my scar covered. It sparked a conversation about appearance and perception in the public eye. We discussed her alopecia and she reminded me of how I encouraged her to embrace her unique beauty, instead of hiding it. “I’m not my hair, I’m my heart - you aren’t your scar, you’re your heart.” My healthy, strong heart. Out of the mouth of babes, right?

I needed to practice what I preach. I’m their example, their leader, their mama. So, last week Gabs and I decided to go for it. And I am so glad we did.
