BATTLECADE EXTREME FIGHTING 3 Official Event Poster ✨ This is the official event poster for Battlecade Extreme Fighting 3, held on October 18, 1996, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Extreme Fighting may have been a short-lived promotion, but this card was absolutely stacked with fighters who would become important names in MMA, Vale Tudo, and submission fighting in general!

The biggest fight of the night was Maurice Smith vs. Marcus “Conan” Silveira for the Extreme Fighting Heavyweight Championship. Smith, already an accomplished kickboxer, defeated Silveira by TKO to capture the title. He would later make history in the UFC by defeating Mark Coleman in a huge upset for the UFC Heavyweight Championship at UFC 14!

The night opened up with Pancrase veteran Todd Bjornethun vs. UFC veteran Rudyard Moncayo, where Bjornethun secured a Round 1 heel hook over Moncayo. Another awesome fight was Pancrase veteran Matt Hume vs. Shooto legend Erik Paulson, two guys who would later become legendary MMA coaches. They fought into the third round before Paulson got a bad cut in Round 3, and brought the fight to an end.

The card also featured Igor Zinoviev, who retained his Middleweight Championship after fighting John Lober to a draw, while Ralph Gracie successfully defended his Lightweight Championship by submitting Ali Mihoubi with a quick first-round armbar!

There were a ton of other recognizable names here too. Future PRIDE fighter (one of the first two actually) Kazunari Murakami defeated Bart Vale by TKO, Allan Goes stopped UFC veteran Anthony Macias with a TKO, and Brazilian Vale Tudo veteran João Roque submitted Abdelaziz Cherigui by a quick armbar. The fight between John Lewis vs. Johil de Oliveira ended in a draw.

Extreme Fighting 3 is a really cool snapshot of MMA in 1996, when the sport was still finding its identity and fighters from kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, shootfighting, and Vale Tudo were all being thrown together to see whose style worked. Definitely a great one to watch for fans of old-school MMA history. I believe you can find it on YouTube, although for the full old school experience get a VHS copy on eBay and watch it on a VCR! Respect the pioneers! - Blago

Hidden Roster: Pancrase Edition

Pancrase was a Japanese promotion that existed before PRIDE FC & opened their doors 2 months before UFC 1 & still holds events to this day

Their rules were different to most other organisations, with no ground & pound allowed, grabbing the ropes would break up a submission attempt & their most famous rule NO CLOSED FIST STRIKES, this allowed for some insane knockouts to occur & fights that are still talked about to this day

With the banning of MMA in America many Martial Artists travelled to Japan to fight for Pancrase, many names you may be suprised fought for the Japanese promotion

How many did you know?

WE’RE GOING TO THE UFC! 👊🔥

What a night for Bilal Hasan.

Bilal walked into Dana White’s Contender Series with a ton of expectations on him, including being the biggest betting favorite in DWCS history at around -5000, and delivered exactly the way we knew he could.

45 seconds. First round TKO. UFC CONTRACT.

Bilal is now 9 and 0 as a professional, with 8 finishes, and tonight the rest of the MMA world got to see what we’ve been seeing in the gym for years.

I couldn’t be more proud of this kid.

I’ve watched Bilal put in the work day after day. The hours in the gym, the sacrifices, the travel, the hard rounds and all those days when nobody was watching. Tonight everybody got to see the result.

I want to give a huge thank you to the entire C3 crew. Every coach, fighter, training partner and teammate who has pushed Bilal and supported him throughout this journey. Nobody reaches this level alone, and this accomplishment belongs to the whole room.

A special thank you and much respect to Matt Hume, AMC Pankration and Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson for the constant guidance, knowledge, training and rounds they’ve given Bilal. The relationship between C3 and AMC goes back a long way, and having people with that level of experience invest their time into Bilal has been invaluable.

And I know this victory means a lot to all of the people supporting Bilal in Indonesia. 🇮🇩

Bilal has built an incredible following there, proudly represents his Indonesian heritage as The IndoNinja, and has thousands of people halfway around the world who have been following this journey and waiting for this moment. Tonight they got to celebrate right along with us.

From Charlie’s Combat Club and AMC in the Pacific Northwest all the way to Indonesia, this one was special.

Bilal represented himself, his family, his team and everyone who believes in him exactly the way we knew he would.

45 seconds later, Bilal Hasan is a UFC fighter.

Congratulations Bilal. You earned every bit of this.

Now the real journey begins. 🥷🇮🇩🇺🇸

Show Bilal some love in the comments and welcome The IndoNinja to the UFC! 👊🔥

🥋 JEHU MEDIA SUMMER FILES: CATCH EDITION 🥋
Summer Files digs into the vault — combat sports history, vintage wrestling memory, and the “what if” questions that connect the pioneers to the fighters we watch today.
This edition, we’re going back to where it all started: catch-as-catch-can.
Time to catch up 👇
🇯🇵 HAYATO “MACH” SAKURAI — Pound-for-pound Japanese legend who fused judo throws with catch-rooted shoot wrestling. 18-fight undefeated Shooto Middleweight Champion, and the only shoot-wrestler to reach ADCC finals in both his weight class AND the Absolute division.
🇳🇱 BAS RUTTEN — Before “El Guapo” became one of the scariest strikers MMA has ever seen, he was grinding chokes, cranks, and pins in the trenches of catch-as-catch-can. This is Rutten at his most fundamental — the NHB-era grappling that made him nearly unbeatable in Pancrase.
⭐ JONATHAN “SAINT” POWELL — Undefeated bantamweight Champion(5-0), 3x Catch Wrestling World Champion, BJJ brown belt. The most recent Black World Catch Wrestling Champion, carrying a lineage that runs through Frank Crozier, Reginald Siki, Viro “Black Sam” Small, and Jack Clayborn.
Three eras. Three styles. One shared bloodline traced all the way back to the mat.
