Back to it nonetheless,
even when all feels fruitless.

(It can never truly be fruitless when I’m *this* fruity✊🏻🥭)

The keffiyeh was first utilized by many for its varying utility in the desert climate of the Middle East, however it also emerged as a symbol of class struggle; as the middle and upper classes embraced the fez, the keffiyeh was generally worn by rural farmers and those on the ‘bottom-rung’ of the societal pecking order. It underwent a transformation following the first world war, and Britain’s subsequent takeover of Palestine from the Ottoman Empire, though: it became a symbol of Palestinian nationalism during the Arab Revolt of the 1930s, and in 1938 the leadership of said revolt ordered that urban classes replace their traditional hats with the keffiyeh so as to foster unity, and allow rebels to better blend into city environments. Then, after the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948, and the subsequent war, which resulted in the displacement of more than HALF of the then-total Palestinian population, the keffiyeh transformed yet again - this time into an expression of resilience against the treatment at the hands of the occupying Israeli’s by both those who were displaced and those who remained. The prominence of the keffiyeh soared higher yet in the 1960s when it was adopted by very notable Palestinian political leader Yasser Arafat, and especially so in the 70s when it became a near-permanent staple of his attire. There are many more factors and nuances which tie the resistance of, and solidarity with, the Palestinian people to the keffiyeh, but as I am running out of space I will just leave you with this excerpt from the poem “If I must die,” written in 2011 by the late Refaat Alareer, which I feel conveys the message of solemn solidarity encapsulated by the keffiyeh beautifully:
“If I must die
let it bring hope
let it be a tale.”
Alareer was brutally incinerated in an Israeli airstrike on the evening of December 6th, 2023, along with his brother, sister, and four nephews. I highly recommend checking out the full poem, as well as the rest of his body of work.

HOH
THE PILE V
LOOK 26 & 27
NOV 17 2024

Can we take a minute to recognize the fierce nature of both @rach.sully and @mikablegh ?!
This was also the first weekend both of them had ever walked a runway and I am simply baffled but grateful!
LOOK AT THAT ENERGY!!!

@rach.sully is such a lovely soul and radiates kindness.
Thank you for walking for HOH. I look forward to watching you excel in this industry.

@rach.sully is wearing:
- two piece elastic gathered dress made from cheer grey mesh salvaged material
- stunning fringe headpiece made from vintage velvet beaded trim by the amazing @polyester_peaches

@mikablegh . You are a truly passionate and loving light. Stay fierce, stay confident. Stay true to you.

When we are given a platform, we must use it wisely and correctly. There was only one answer when @mikablegh asked if they could wear the keffiyeh down the runway. Absolutely 💯
Mika will be starting a fundraising campaign for Falastin in the near future. Please follow their IG @mikablegh to stay informed.

The Pile V collection was designed while I was learning about and having my heart broken and opened towards Palestine and its beautiful people and to the Middle East and all countries suffering genocide and fighting for justice.
We stand with you and we will fight for you.
Collective liberation IS the only solution.
This collection is a message to the systems that we will not stand for this bigotry, this hate, this injustice. Humanity and community will come together and we will prevail.
Time to STOMP.

@mikablegh is wearing:
- hand dyed black crochet two piece made from an up cycled cotton blanket and tablecloth
- keffiyeh purchased and owned by Mika, we dyed it a soft light lilac purple

FAT Final Day.

I barely have words to describe the flurry of emotions that this day brought forth within me. I keep writing, deleting, rewriting, deleting, rinse and repeat - and I think that’s because, even a few weeks later, my brain hasn’t truly processed everything yet. I never thought something like this would be possible for me, never expected that I would ever be able to hold true to myself, to others. Consistency is something I have always struggled with, especially as someone with ADHD - made worse by COVID’s theft of my tenth through twelfth highschool years; I truly had no hope in anything for so long, and after meeting my ex I plummeted further yet.
Spiralling down,
down,
down,
down to a hell I couldn’t/wouldn’t divorce myself from… but then I met @clicksif in those depths, a beacon of sunlight gently parting the ashen winter within; without your love I would not have made it to this day, without your support I wouldn’t have even applied in the first place... and without your thoughtful insight I doubt that I would have been able to do right by the message I so badly wanted to encapsulate on the runway this night. I say that because the idea of wearing a keffiyeh was hers. I knew I wanted to make a statement, but in my anger at the recent US election results, in my rage at the wanton culling of innocents at the hands of Apartheid Israel - at the hands of my governments, who remain the two largest benefactors of Israel’s campaign of terror - I was blinded: After researching the history of the keffiyeh and its significance to the Palestinian struggle, I realized it was the perfect vessel through which to display my solidarity, my rage, my sorrow for all those who have suffered - who are suffering. Kelly, too, helped me realize this, which I am so thankful for; the message she wanted to spread with the Pile V resonated deeply with me, and I am so appreciative of her for allowing me to superimpose my own atop it.

Thank you to @bigntallmike for the first photo in this post, and to @mmisssami & @hairxathena for making my makeup and hair perfect for the runway.

Thank you to everyone.
