a lil love for the giant puffball 💖 I find it almost comical coming across these giant goofy volleyballs of the woods! 🏐🌳

They often grow in patches and produce an ungodly amount of food each season. They’re only edible when fully white inside (no yellow, no brown, no powdery/slimy spores) and have the texture of marshmallow inside. Remove the skin too - it comes off easy.

I gave puffball pizza another go with some pals, using a smashed cross section of the mushroom as the “dough”. Squeezing all the liquid out seems to be the key. It was pretty good, but honestly, not quite as delicious as it is novel. 🍕

I still prefer my tried and true method of cubing the inside of the mushroom and using it how I would tofu — breading and pan frying, roasting in the oven, stewing in a curry, or just sautéing in oil. They don’t have a ton of flavor, but theyre a nice canvas for other seasonings and sauces. 🍲◻️

September is one of my favorite months, probably bc I make my birthday celebrations last all month 🤭 I’m still mourning the end of tomato and melon season but at least I can wear all my cute jackets and sweaters now 🍂🍁 Fall in DC is off to the races so catch me outside every weekend 💃🏻

Highlights of September:
🍄‍🟫going on a mushroom foraging weekend with @mycowdc! I need to make a recap post because this retreat was just what I needed to ground myself and relax with fellow fun-guys
🧙🏼‍♀️Started my spooky movie watches early - I watched Practical Magic for the first time and loved it! (the second one was a flop 🥲)
👯‍♀️spent lots of time with my friends throughout the DMV! I went to Bethesda and Alexandria multiple times last month which is very unlike me lol
🕶️saw my queen @charli_xcx perform at @capitalonearena - she did fantastic and thanks to Jeremy for playing Next Level Charli again 🤭. This month, Harry’s House 🏡🪩🌃

coconut king oyster mushrooms with pickled onions & plantain chips from @mycowdc’s annual Labor Day weekend mushroom camp! so delicious and a unique flavor combo that i’m still thinking of!

pawpaw lassi ice cream from @mmmumai! My friend Alex gifted me some ice cream including this one made with seasonally available pawpaw! His creative flavor combo here highlights this delicacy so well - pickups available in 📍Silver Spring & 📍Adams Morgan

Pawpaw season is always around my birthday so I associate this fruit with my birthday hehe 🤭

melon matcha fizz from @seeyouatround! truly made my entire month seeing everybody try this drink! i loveeed working with the folks at Round cafe to develop this drink! this is the beginning of many more creative recipe developments ☺️

caramelized salmon - Cá khoi tô from @indochine_dc. the sweet and salty sauce was sooo good, i’m still thinking about this dish! need to go back and try even more!

@dolcezzagelato x @rockysmatcha collab! i tried the matcha and hojicha lattes which were simple & extremely high quality, sometimes you just want to taste the natural flavor of the tea without all the added ingredients!

they made a special matcha soft serve sundae too which was delicious! matcha + m

🧸 Saw @chineseamericanbear at @pieshopdc (and got front row hehe)
🛏️ Redid our bedroom and finally upgraded from our college furniture 😵‍💫
🌎 Got inspired at the newly opened @natgeomuseum
🏝️ Spent too many hours watching Love Island US but loved kikiing with all my girls and gays about it ❤️‍🔥

Join KAMA DC for a delicious workshop where food science, bold flavors, and frozen creativity collide.
Step into the delicious world of frozen desserts, a demonstration workshop where food science, creativity, and pure joy come together in every scoop. 🍦🍦🍦

This session is split into two flavorful parts: Ice Cream and Sorbet taking you on a guided journey from foundational definitions to the art of crafting balanced, expressive recipes.

You’ll discover what truly makes an ice cream an ice cream: its composition, the role of fats and sugars, how stabilizers behave, and how each element shapes texture and flavor. Then we’ll dive into sorbet: unpacking sugar structures, acids, and the formulas behind that perfect, refreshing finish. Along the way, expect practical examples, troubleshooting tips, and unexpected flavor paths: herb-infused teas, savory wine sorbets designed for oysters or sashimi, and beyond.

Please note: this workshop involves the handling of nuts and other common allergens. If you have a serious nut allergy or are sensitive to traces of certain ingredients, we recommend you do not register.
