Celebrating 45 Years of Stewardship Since 1981

Let's make this Saturday's Celebration feel like a Harlem family reunion! All we need now is YOU!

NYC Parks Commissioner Tricia Shimamura will join us, along with New York State representatives, elected officials, Manhattan Community Board 11, and Marcus Garvey Park Alliance.

We'll hear from Madlyn Stokley, our past president and daughter of Hilda Stokley, whose community leadership dates back to the 1960s; Patrice Eaton, daughter of MMPCIA founder Patricia Pates Eaton; and Syderia Asberry Chresfield, a MMPCIA past president, who will share remarks about our historic Fire Watch Tower.

We're honoring the legacy of generations of neighbors who've helped shape our community, especially as MMPCIA celebrates its 45th anniversary!

And look who's performing! Our own Craig Harris with a full hour of live jazz, Maria Freeman, soloist and our current MMPCIA secretary, singing Lift Every Voice and Sing, Peace & Drum ~ Community including Baba Ade Harris, James Riggins and Axel Van Earth, the Marching Cobras of NY, and step dancers from Thurgood Marshall Academy.

Zakiyyah Modeste, aka Sista Zock, will be our emcee! So you already know...the vibes will be just right.

We're coming together as Harlem community to celebrate the National Register of Historic Places recognition of Marcus Garvey Park and the 50th anniversary of the historic designation of the Mount Morris Park Fire Watch Tower.

Of course there'll be food.

Bring the family, call a neighbor and come celebrate the park we've loved and cared for across generations.

When we opened Heath Gallery in 2002, we had no idea where it would take us. The people we’d meet. The artists we’d get to know and work with and the breadth and depth of the community we’d have the privilege of serving.

It’s taken a few days for me to really digest “We’re Outside” + all the beautiful perspectives and conversations about my work. It was so fun to connect with my fellow artists & Figure Art Lovers who admire intricate details and shading.

The experience was enlightening and enthralling to my senses. It was such a full circle moment to exhibit at the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival in Marcus Garvey Park where I used to run around & play as a child. As this was my first outdoor exhibition, engaging with such a diverse audience expanded me in ways that I did not expect.

🥹🤗🎥Thank you to my family and friends who came out to support me and acknowledge me especially capturing footage of my art chats in action.

Still riding off the high from Saturday’s ‘We’re Outside’ exhibition. Thank you @saundra_alexis_heath @thomas_heath & the @heathgallery for including ATTIE in this year’s annual celebration. Harlem never fails to provide rich culture and arts and that’s exactly what the afternoon was filled with.

Grateful for the people who made it out to show support. I always appreciate seeing familiar faces and the convos with newcomers being introduced to the project. Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to make it around to meet everyone. But I am honored to be featured alongside all the incredible talents involved.

Thanks to Gary and his team for assisting and making this a seamless experience from start to finish. To my canopy buddy Patrick-Earl, I was thrilled to be featured with the likes of such a SoHo icon. Couldn’t have asked for better positioning with my neighbor artist, Theo, Bonnie, Jamel, Linda and David. And to everyone else, exceptional work!

This weekend, Harlem One Stop stopped by three events celebrating the neighborhood’s culture, creativity and community.

Harlem Book Fair brought together authors, publishers and readers for a celebration of Black literature and culture.
Charlie Parker Jazz Festival filled Marcus Garvey Park with live jazz while honoring the legacy of Charlie “Bird” Parker.
“We’re Outside” Group Art Exhibit brought 28 contemporary artists together for an afternoon of art, music and creativity in the park.
