I don’t always take the time to reflect on all that I’ve accomplished so far… Scrolling through social media, comparison can definitely rob you of joy. You watch others doing amazing things and being given insane opportunities that you’ve only dreamed of or would love to get. You question your talent, your creativity, your sense of humor, your luck, your worth and it creates a sense of doubt & lack of motivation & even frustration or depression. I’ve been acting since I was 13 and I began creating sketches online over 12+ years ago (on vine). I thought that by putting myself out there, I’d be able to show my talent and creativity, which would give me the chance to reach people that could potentially open doors for my acting! At first, i was mocked for acting on social media. It was taboo. As the years went on, i gained much more than visibility, i gained a community of supporters and I gained a new appreciation for the power of art and comedy and the impact it can have on others. At the time, i was basically working 2 full time jobs: a corporate marketing job by day and an actor/content creator by night and weekends! Then I started getting a few interesting opportunities through my social media content and acting. Got some fun brand deals and saw potential in gaining more visibility for my acting and writing. After covid, i got laid off and thought, with some success through my acting and content, why not push through full time on my passion. Well the actor and writing strikes happened, social media & content creation became the norm for everybody to make money or gain visibility, & with larger number of creators and algorithms changing and follower counts less meaningful due to the interest based algorithms, visibility and opportunities dried up. But in this crazy world that keeps us scrolling through to the next thing at an insane pace, we forget to reflect & look back at all we’ve accomplished. I am definitely guilty of that! So I wanted to share some of the things I’ve done over the past 12+ years to hold a mirror up and realize that although I may feel low or defeated at times when looking at what others are doing, I have a lot to offer and be proud of
