VCU won a 4–3 thriller against Dayton—and their ability to change shape in every phase made the difference. 👀🔥

Defensively, VCU started in a 5-3-2, with the wingback stepping out to press Dayton’s wide player.

When pushed deeper, the shape became a 5-4-1.

In buildup, VCU used a 4-4-3 including the goalkeeper, creating an overload when the ball traveled wide.

If they couldn’t play through the pressure?

They attacked the channels to turn Dayton’s back line.

In the second phase, the shape became a 3-2-4-1.

The back three and double pivot created the central overload, while the midfielders and forwards stayed close enough to combine and rotate.

That left the wingbacks isolated 1v1 and opened space for the 10s to:

Run in behind.
Interchange positions.
Or drop into the half-space.

Then came the chaos.

🔥 Mohammed Ibrahim and Lucas White scored screamers just 37 seconds apart
⚽ Ibrahim — goal + assist
⚽ Kimarly Scott — goal + assist
🎯 VCU converted 4 of 6 shots on target

Dayton won the corner count 11–1, but VCU were ruthless when their chances came.

Different structures. Clinical execution.
