Still riding the wave of love and energy felt at VILLAGE MEETING.

A coming together of people, practices, objects and ideas - brought into the same context and allowed to take on a life of their own.

A framework with enough structure to hold different voices, while leaving enough openness for new relationships, conversations and possibilities to emerge.

The value is in what happens between things: the unexpected connections, exchanges and encounters that begin to form when different worlds are given the space to meet.

Very grateful to everyone who contributed to making it what it was.

Presenting the final room of VILLAGE MEETING, the Gallery at @hackneydownstudios.

“The Gallery centred on the individual presence of each work, using the architecture and surrounding white space to frame their materiality, detail, and distinct visual languages. This created space for dialogue between object and possibility, inviting viewers to consider how each piece might translate into different contexts, uses, and rituals.” (Words by @operative___oversight @demi_oyey)

By @mo___tong: Some pages from my thesis <fucntional /& ornaments> developed during last year at écal, it started as a visual research collecting images of things that resist immediate legibility—things whose purpose is recognisable but not entirely exhausted by use, where function coexists with ambiguity.

These objects trace how ornament was marginalised alongside craft through industrial rationalisation, colonial hierarchies of taste, and modernist ideals of reduction. It then considers ornament’s reappearance within postmodern and post-structural contexts, where objects operate simultaneously as tools, symbols, and points of connection.

Thank you @anniina.koivu @brynjarsigurdarson @paula_muehlena for the guidance and support along the way, and @xleetype for the graphic design 🌟
