MO BAR at Mandarin Oriental Singapore got inspired to make its own gin with local distillery Distillius, and the result is the MO BAR Gin No.1.

Not an imaginative name, but with its Old Tom base with mango and osmanthus doing the local heavy lifting, and then clarified for sophistication, it’s quite something.

Also bottled in a ceramic vase you’ll never throw out or Carousell.

Watch to the end for my score.

A GIN EXPERIENCE WITH PANORAMIC VIEWS OF MBS AND THE SINGAPORE CBD 🍸

MO BAR at Mandarin Oriental has launched its very first house gin, MO BAR Edition No. 1 Gin, and the ceramic bottle is SO pretty! 🥹 Inspired by Singapore’s Garden City identity, this Old Tom Gin features tropical botanicals like dried mango, mandarin and osmanthus, giving it fruity, citrusy and floral notes.

I got to try The First Edition Experience ($61++) which comes in 3, a neat pour of the gin, a Signature G&T, and your choice of cocktail between the fruity M.O. Mango or the bittersweet M.O. MAMI. Loved how each serve brought out a different side of the gin!

Of course, no bar experience is complete without some bites. I had a dozen oysters ($76) and the Wagyu Beef Sliders ($38 for 3) served with fries. The perfect kind of bar food to enjoy while sipping on cocktails and taking in those gorgeous panoramic views of Marina Bay Sands and the Singapore CBD skyline. You can even bring home their signature gin in its beautiful 500ml ceramic bottle for $150++. A pretty addition to any home bar!

MO Bar’s Edition No. 1 Gin is the easiest-drinking gin I’ve had in recent memory. Possibly ever. Notes include dried mango, mandarin, coriander seeds, osmanthus and (sigh) sauvignon blanc, which I guess I only enjoy when it’s hardly there :p

And isn’t the bottle pretty?? It’s supposed to double as a vase when you’re finished 💐

What a year it has been.

After countless rounds of tasting the same ingredients over and over again, the gin that is, in my eyes, the most beautiful in the world, our gin is finally complete.

To receive a Gold Medal on the global stage upon its launch has left me feeling both incredibly moved and deeply responsible for what comes next.

My heartfelt thanks to the entire Distillius team for bringing our vision to life, and to everyone at Mandarin Oriental Singapore who believed in this project and made it possible.

This belongs to all of us. 🍸

Drinking my way through Asia 🍸

Seven years since I’d been back to Bangkok + Singapore, plus my FIRST trip to China, and this trip was such a reminder of just how EPIC the cocktail scene is in this part of the world. The creativity, hospitality, martini variations + savory cocktails were next level.

🇹🇭 BANGKOK

Bar Us @bar.us.bkk Basically my dream bar. Savory cocktails inspired by food, including the iconic Beef + Onion, Mapo Tofu, Butter + Onion and a martini variation.

BKK Social Club @bar.us.bkk Bangkok meets Mexico City. An epic martini + the frozen margarita of the day was BANANA. 🍌 Obviously I had to try it.

Firefly @fireflybarbangkok Gorgeous cocktails, live jazz, incredible service and one of those rooms you just don’t want to leave. The whole experience was EPIC.

🇨🇳 GUANGZHOU

Hope & Sesame @hopeandsesame My first cocktail bar in China! Cantonese flavors, wildly creative techniques and such an incredible introduction to the cocktail scene in Guangzhou.

🇸🇬 SINGAPORE

ATLAS @atlasbarsg One of the most jaw-dropping bar rooms in the world. That gin tower will never get old.

Nutmeg & Clove @nutmegandclove Their Singapore Sling riff was one of my favorites of the trip, complete with the tiny Singapore flag. 🇸🇬

MO BAR @mobarsg Another completely different take on the Singapore Sling and proof that Singapore can keep reinventing its most famous cocktail.

Jigger & Pony @jiggerandponysg Creative, polished and still FUN. There’s a reason this bar continues to be one of Singapore’s must-visits.

Bar KAP @barkapsg Cocktails inside the historic House of Tan Yeok Nee, Singapore’s last surviving traditional Teochew mansion. Such a cool setting for a bar.

Three countries, countless cocktails + a very strong reminder that some of the most exciting drinking experiences in the world are happening in Asia.

And this is only a SMALL piece of the trip. So much more Bangkok, Guangzhou + Singapore content coming. ✈️🍸
