“There (she) goes. One of God’s own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.”
-HUNTER S. THOMPSON
{cut to 49 years from now on a park bench to strangers who never asked:}
…And that is why I never married.

Not everyone appreciates ink therapy. Good thing I don’t do it for everyone. I do it for me. Once I realized I’d likely never wear the wedding dress, the promise I made to my extra-conservative mother about keeping my shoulders/back pure evaporated. Tarnishing a shoulder to reclaim myself post broken engagement was mandatory and so I did it without preface nor apology. Tats are my #fm therapy, my soul therapy. The only shred of myself I keep for myself to center, harness #fm chronic pain, and be sane, even if only for a moment. Won’t stop for anyone. & the louder the protest, the more radical the art. Leg fossil flora/fauna sleeve next. Harnessing #fm pain with ink is my religion. Brings me peace. I fall asleep during ink sessions. I laugh in excellent company. Better than any analgesic or several things prescribed before with #fibromyalgia . I quit those a long time ago. “But it’s PERMANENT.” Fibromyalgia is permanent. I never concern myself about that. I design shit I find meaningful. This is healing for me. I love it. I love the folks, the community, the artistry. I love the acceptance. I love catching my breath with like-minded talent. I love rebelling. I love focusing on other worldly pain, IF pain…don’t feel most of em. I love all of this. Planned for more ages ago. Let it be.

TY @noblejackalstattoo my lil electric chapel of calm amongst mad talent. My style of weird. But next time wear helmets and avoid roadkill, ya?

(Much belated) Welcome to Mind Your Ink, Aaron! 🔥

Aaron (he/any, @yuhizzle based in Austin, TX at @noblejackalstattoo) specializes in what we’d describe as more traditional style with subject matter that challenges social norms, offers up critique, and can be absurdist. And sometimes, just plain ole bold and funny.

On top of being just a tattoo artist, Aaron is the sax (as in saxophone, yes) man of the band @throatpiss, self described as “ATX Swampy blackened sludgecore” 🎷. They’re also (if you doesn’t mind us saying) community-oriented and a social advocate. We have a lot of great social, political, global advocates and activists in the tattoo community, but Aaron in particular seems to never be afraid to speak up to share community (and humanity tbh) oriented critique and action.

Book with them at mindyourink.com/book/yuhizzle 📝

Austin folks, if you’re looking for an artist in traditional style with a plethora of unique trad flash (SO MUCH TO CHOOSE FROM) and someone who’s a genuine, caring human being, Aaron is your artist!!

What to do when there are no more #tattoofridays? Go back and make reels of earlier tattoos from before you learned how to make reels!

This piece was done on April 9, 2022. It was originally a painting by @douglascasonart, who generously agreed to let me wear it as a tattoo, and it was flawlessly executed by @mrjstattoos.

This is one of my most meaningful tattoos for a few reasons. It’s a beautiful painting by a dear college friend. It’s the one that made me want to keep going back to @noblejackalstattoo, which sparked wonderful new friendships with so many people who have become so important to me. It brought so much unexpected joy into my life. It was meant as a memorial tattoo for Matt, who has been gone for five years as of this coming Friday, but it became so much more.
