Libraries 🤝Justice. Our team at @brooklynjusticeinitiatives teamed up with NYC Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice (@mocj.nyc) to bring little free libraries to Columbus Park next to Brooklyn Borough Hall, providing a space for neighbors to pick up a free book and learn more about community justice in the process.📚 It’s one example of how @innovatingjusticeand and @mocj.nyc are working together to build a justice system that’s safer, smaller, and smarter by expanding community-based alternatives that help people move forward while strengthening neighborhoods. Restorative responses for participants at @brooklynjusticeinitiatives can sometimes look like counseling or assistance with housing resources—or it can look like collaborating to bring art and literature to their neighborhood. ☝️ The libraries were designed and curated by participants for their neighbors to learn more about community justice, what diversion from the justice system and Rikers can look like, and why we need meaningful alternatives to incarceration. Thank you to NYC Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice (@mocj.nyc) and NYC Parks (@nycparks) for their partnership, and book donation partners at Brooklyn Book Bodega, Brooklyn Public Library (@bklynlibrary), and Bulletproof Comics (@bulletproofcomics). Stay tuned for more little free libraries popping up in your area. Next stop: the Bronx and Staten Island.📍

Before taking our first steps across the Brooklyn Bridge, we came together. Veterans, service members, military families, City leaders, community partners, sponsors, supporters, elected officials and Chair of the City Council’s Committee on Veterans gathered at @nycemergencymanagement headquarters ahead of New York City’s inaugural Remembrance Ruck. It was a moment to connect, reflect, and recognize the many people whose partnership, leadership, and support helped bring this historic day to life. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us that morning and to the partners and sponsors who helped make the Remembrance Ruck possible. #NYCRucks2026 #Veterans #NYC #RemembranceRuck #NeverForget

Our new Downtown Brooklyn office is officially open! Yesterday, we cut the ribbon on a brand new space built to help New Yorkers heal, grow and succeed. Last year, CASES served more than 2,000 Brooklyn residents and more than 14,000 New Yorkers through alternatives to incarceration, mental health & employment programs. This expanded office brings all of our Brooklyn programs together to foster collaboration, providing more client rooms, group rooms and classrooms. It will also be home to a new phlebotomy certification track in our CRED employment program, opening career pathways in health care, one of New York’s fastest growing industries. Thank you to Assembly Member Jo Anne Simon, @cmrestler, Director Deanna Logan of @mocj.nyc, Executive Deputy Commissioner of Mental Hygiene Jorge Petit of @nychealthy and our partners across city and state government for celebrating with us! @officeofmentalhealth @nysdcjs @nycacs @bkbpreynoso Group of seven diverse professionals standing in front of a purple backdrop with 'CASES' logo, cutting a red ribbon at an event.

Opportunity. Partnership. A pathway forward. 💼✨ NYC Probation Commissioner Sharun Goodwin was proud to join Emerge Career, the NYC Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice, fellow City agencies, employers and community partners for an evening focused on creating real pathways to economic opportunity for New Yorkers. Through Next Mile NYC, we’re helping connect our clients to workforce training, career opportunities and the resources they need to build sustainable futures. Commissioner Goodwin congratulated Raheine who came to Emerge through a referral from one of our probation officers. He is the first client to complete this program and he just earned his commercial driver’s license. 🚛 This is the Next Mile: real skills, real opportunities and real pathways to success. #NYCProbation #NextMileNYC #WorkforceDevelopment

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. This year’s theme, “Changing the Narrative on Suicide,” calls for open conversations and collective action towards curating a culture of prevention. ◾️ We encourage people to ask for help. Amid the flurry of feel-good adages dressed in yellow ribbons and saccharine words of wisdom, some will find themselves adrift in the awareness ether, surrounded by invitations to seek help but without a clear way to reach it. ◾️ The daunting burden of taking that first step can still rest squarely on the shoulders of those who need help most. ◾️ Let’s make help easier to find. ◾️ NYC welcomes students back today. As students navigate new classrooms and lunch-table friendships, finding support shouldn't become another assignment they need to complete alone. ◾️ Parents, caregivers, and educators: you don't need to have every answer handy. Start by asking the young people in your life what they need. ◾️ To help with what comes next, we are sharing two printable guides: NYC Suicide Prevention Resources and NYC Youth Mental Health and Substance Use Services. Download both at the link in our bio. ◾️ “What would be useful right now?” ◾️ “Would it help to look at the options together?” ◾️ “Were you able to connect, or do you need help finding another option?” ◾️ Sharing a resource is a beginning. Offering to help someone use it is another way to show up. ◾️ And for anyone seeking support themselves: you shouldn't have to find the perfect words, demonstrate optimism, or already have someone in your corner to deserve care. ◾️ Print copies for yourself, bring them into your school or organization, or use one to explore options with someone seeking support. ◾️ For free, confidential mental health and substance use support, call, text, or chat with 988, 24/7. ◾️ 🔗 Full Youth resource: bit.ly/2026youthresource ◾️ Full Suicide Prevention resource: bit.ly/2026suipreventiontri ◾️ #NYC988: https://nyc988.cityofnewyork.us/en/ 💛💚💜 #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #SuicidePrevention #NYC #MentalHealth #NYCMentalHealth #WSPD2026 World Suicide Prevention Day graphic with an orange ribbon and NYC skyline. Today is #988Day, a day to learn, reflect, connect, and take action. ▪️ This year’s theme, “988 Reasons: Your reason is reason enough,” holds close a simple message: you don’t have to wait for a crisis to contact 988. ▪️ #SuicidePreventionMonth asks us to recognize that we can’t always spot despair and struggle in others. Sometimes the biggest smiles, worn by the most successful people we know, shield sadness the rest of us never see. ▪️ On 988 Day, we lift helpers in healthcare who spend their days tending to pain they can’t always leave at work. We honor first responders and the grief that doesn’t end when their shifts do. We check in on the brilliant and deeply isolated octogenarian down the block who has outlived their entire family and think of our most steadfast friends who wear their strength like armor, adorned with the scratches and dents of lived experience. ▪️ We think of anyone and everyone who may not have that strong friend or large family to reach out to before crises cascade. ▪️ Someone may come to mind as you read this. Perhaps it’s you! Whatever your reason, you too deserve supportive space to lay bare your shields and share your sorrows. ▪️ Save NYC 988 in your contacts. Share these resources with your colleagues and the communities you serve. Put support within reach before someone has to fight through a crisis to find it. ▪️ Thank you for taking action! 🖤 ▪️ (Also in bio) 🔗 Learn the difference between 988, 911, and 311 + download content: nyc.gov/988-911-311 🔗 Resource to go: bit.ly/nyc988day 🔗 Individual slides for sharing: bit.ly/988dayslides 🔗 NYC 988: nyc988.cityofnewyork.us/en/ 💚💚💚 #NYCMentalHealth #NYC #MentalHealth Cover: “Today is 988 Day” appears over a purple, blue, and green background framed by illustrated NYC buildings and stars. What a night! Hundreds of New Yorkers packed our event in Brooklyn to talk about real pathways to economic opportunity and justice for communities often overlooked and underinvested in the workforce space. Thank you to the leadership at NYC Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice, NYC Probation, NYC Department of Correction, NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services, NYC Office of Talent and Workforce Development, and NYC Council Member Selvena Brooks-Powers for showing up, speaking candidly, and kicking off an incredible night centered on economic opportunity and justice. Hundreds of Emerge graduates are landing jobs with average starting salaries of $75,000 and many attendees on Wednesday got job offers on the spot! Special thanks to our employer partners and NYC Department of Youth & Community Development, NYC Human Resources Administration, and New York City Economic Development Corporation for joining us as well. This is what the Next Mile NYC is about. Real workforce development. Real economic opportunity. More to come. #workforcedevelopment #NYC #economicopportunity

None of us would’ve made it this far without supporting one another…be honest. From empowering survivors and advocating for those who have been silenced to protecting communities and ensuring New Yorkers are heard. The city doesn’t sleep, and neither does security excellence. Our @empiresecurityny team and community partners show up for NYC in so many ways every day, so let’s make some noise for them! @nycscagram @nyc_probation @nys_restaurant_association @outsmartnyc @northbkcoalition @nycendgbv @109th_precinct @moj.nyc Each mission statement looks different, but the goal is the same: making our communities safer, stronger, and better for our neighbors. Thank you for doing the work, showing up, and standing with us. Together we are #EmpireStrong
