Operation Fansan Yamma Troops Rescue Kidnapped Victim, Recover 18 Cattle, Arrest Four Suspects

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued a kidnapped resident, recovered 18 rustled cattle, and arrested four suspected drug peddlers in separate security operations in Kebbi State.

The operations were conducted on October 18, 2026, by troops of Sector 2 in collaboration with local vigilantes and personnel of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

In the first operation, troops and local vigilantes responded to a distress call reporting a terrorist attack on Rambo Village in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, where residents were targeted for kidnapping and cattle rustling.

According to a statement issued on October 19 by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the troops swiftly mobilised to the community and engaged the attackers in a firefight.

The military said the operation led to the successful rescue of a 40-year-old resident, Suleiman Maiyaki Ikara, and the recovery of 18 rustled cattle.

The rescued victim and recovered cattle were subsequently handed over to the District Head of Rambo Village for further action.

In a separate operation, troops of Sector 2, working with NDLEA personnel, raided suspected drug trafficking locations in Dakin Kowa, Karaye and Gubba communities in Maiyama Local Government Area.

The coordinated raids resulted in the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of substances suspected to be illicit drugs.

The suspects and recovered substances have been handed over to the NDLEA Command in Maiyama for further investigation and necessary action.

Reaffirming its commitment to tackling insecurity and criminal activities, the Theatre Command called on residents to support security agencies with timely and credible intelligence.

“The Theatre Command also appreciates the continued support and cooperation of local communities and urges members of the public to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to enhance ongoing operations,” the statement said.

DECAN Honours Oluyede Calls for Media Partnership Against AI-Driven Security Threats

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, has called for stronger military-media collaboration to combat misinformation and artificial intelligence-generated content capable of undermining Nigeria’s national security.

Oluyede made the call at the Defence Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DECAN) Conference on National Security and Awards 2026, where he was honoured for his leadership of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and efforts to strengthen joint military operations.

Represented by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the CDS received the award on Monday, October 12, at the Army Command Officers’ Mess 1, Asokoro, Abuja.

Speaking on the conference theme, “Beyond Kinetic Warfare: Harnessing Technology and Intelligence-Led Operations for Nigeria’s National Security,” Oluyede stressed that modern warfare requires technological advancement, timely intelligence and effective management of the information environment.

He urged defence journalists to work closely with the military in addressing emerging information threats, emphasising that “credible reporting and responsible information dissemination are critical to protecting national security.”

The CDS’s message highlighted concerns over the potential use of AI-generated videos, cloned voices and manipulated content to spread false narratives, mislead the public and complicate military operations.

The award also recognised Oluyede’s strategic emphasis on strengthening cooperation among the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy and Nigerian Air Force in responding to the country’s evolving security challenges.

His military strategy prioritises coordinated planning, intelligence sharing and the effective deployment of capabilities across Nigeria’s security theatres.

It also promotes a whole-of-government approach to national security through collaboration between the Armed Forces, other security agencies and relevant government institutions.

Beyond operational effectiveness, Oluyede has emphasised personnel welfare and professional development to support results-driven operations.

Insecurity doesn’t just affect where we go. Sometimes, it affects whether we go at all.

It shows up in the plans we cancel, the routes we change, the constant checking in with loved ones, and the worry that follows us even when nothing has happened.

And beyond the incidents we hear about every day, there’s a mental and emotional burden we don’t talk about enough.

This is part of why we’re building LIMBUZZ. We believe making it easier to reach out for help during an emergency can be one step towards addressing the challenges people face when their safety is at risk.

We know technology cannot solve insecurity on its own, but we believe it can be part of the solution.

Now, we’d love to hear from you. 💬

Has insecurity in Nigeria changed the way you live your everyday life? Have you ever cancelled a plan, changed your route, or avoided somewhere because you didn’t feel safe?

Share your experience in the comments. Let’s talk about it.

When your network drops, who has to act, and do they know it?

That’s the question behind a panel I joined on moving from silo to sovereign readiness.

A “silo” just means teams that each do their own job well but never plan together. A country can have strong agencies and still be exposed, because the risk sits in the gaps between them.

Five things have to work as one chain:
🔭 Foresight: what to prepare for
🤝 Institutions: who acts, and when
📡 Communications: carrying the decision
🔐 Cyber assurance: protecting it
⚡ Power: keeping all of it running

At NIGCOMSAT, we’ve put real work into resilience at our hub, including power continuity, because customers and government can only trust a network that stays up.

My ask in the room was simple: every priority needs one named owner. Ideas without a name next to them don’t get built.

If you’re a young Nigerian studying engineering, cyber, energy, policy or data, here’s the opportunity: the people who can connect these fields will lead the next decade. Pick one field to master, and learn enough of the others to speak their language.

Which field are you in, and which of the other four do you most want to understand? Tell me below. 👇

“I’m home.”

Two simple words that can take a weight off someone’s mind.

It’s the message a parent waits for. The text a friend sends after a late night out. The call you make when someone has been on the road longer than expected.

In Nigeria, checking that the people we love are safe has become part of how we care for one another.

But what happens when someone can’t make that call or send that message?

It’s one of the realities that inspires us at LIMBUZZ.

We’re building with a simple belief: staying safe and getting help shouldn’t depend on luck.

Tell us: Who is the person you always check on until you know they’ve arrived safely?

AI Deepfakes Emerge as Weapons of Psychological Warfare, CDS Oluyede Warns

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, has warned that artificial intelligence-generated deepfakes are becoming a national security threat, capable of endangering troops, triggering public panic, and undermining public confidence in the Armed Forces.

Oluyede gave the warning in a goodwill message at the 2026 Defence Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DECAN) Conference in Abuja, where he called for stronger collaboration between the military and the media to combat digital disinformation.

Represented by Major General Samaila Uba, the CDS urged defence journalists to strengthen fact-checking and responsible reporting to prevent fabricated digital content from undermining military operations and public trust.

He identified manipulated videos and images, cloned voices and false operational claims as emerging tools for misleading the public, discrediting military personnel and weakening confidence in security institutions.

“These deepfakes are not mere misinformation; they are weapons of psychological warfare aimed at eroding public trust in the Armed Forces and rupturing the vital bond between the military and the citizenry,” Oluyede said.

He stressed that modern warfare extends beyond conventional firepower, with intelligence superiority, technological advancement, cyber resilience and control of the information space increasingly influencing the outcome of security operations.

According to him, a single fabricated video could jeopardise months of operational gains, expose troops to danger and provoke panic in affected communities, making the fight against digital falsehoods a collective national security responsibility.

Speaking on the conference theme, “Beyond Kinetic Warfare: Harnessing Technology and Intelligence-Led Operations for Nigeria’s National Security,” Oluyede urged defence correspondents to prioritise accuracy over the pressure to break news, particularly when reporting sensitive military operations.

He advised journalists to verify sensitive operational information with the Defence Headquarters before publication, educate the public on recognising AI
