Part 5: Thanks for joining us.

The response to the series has been incredible, and it reinforces how vital it is for our communities to see people who look like us succeeding. Representation matters, not just in medicine but across every profession and industry. Sometimes seeing someone you can relate to achieving something you aspire to is all it takes to believe that you can do it too. That’s why we need to keep celebrating, sharing and creating spaces for black excellence.

Our next Black Male Doctors Network dinner is planned for spring 2027. If you’re a black man in medicine and would like to be involved, let me know in the comments.

If you’d like to see more examples of black excellence on your timeline, follow along. There’s plenty more to come.

And finally, consider organising something similar within your own profession or community. Sometimes, instead of waiting for opportunities to come to us, we need to create them for one another. You never know who you might inspire.

Part 4:
Seeing someone you relate to in a position you aspire to be in is a powerful experience. That very experience inspired me to pursue a career in medicine. But the power of representation doesn’t stop at Black men in medicine.

At dinner I saw life changing connections being made, advice being exchanged and people learning from one another. It reminded me that sometimes all it takes is bringing the right people together. Sometimes a single conversation is all it takes to open a door you didn’t even know existed.

It’s time to be visible, be vocal and start building the connections that can help you navigate life.
Your network is your net worth.
Let’s turn this comments section into a directory.

Whatever your gender, background, profession or stage of your journey, there’s value in connection.
Find a role model. Find a mentor. Find a mentee. Find a partner. You never know where a connection might lead.

Drop your flag, your city and tell us what you do in the comments. Tag someone who could benefit from expanding their network.

“Am I going to be the only Black guy?”

A question I’m sure many Black men have asked themselves at some point during their journey through medicine.

For once, none of us had to worry about being the only one. No code-switching to show that we belonged, no worrying about how we might be perceived. Just an opportunity to share our stories, celebrate our successes and speak openly about the challenges we’ve faced along the way.

Despite how far we’ve come, the reality is that Black men remain amongst the lowest-performing groups when it comes to educational attainment and career progression, both in medicine and wider society. These challenges have persisted for far too long, and whilst we won’t solve them overnight, I genuinely believe that bringing us together is a step in the right direction. By sharing our experiences, supporting one another and helping those coming behind us navigate the challenges we’ve faced, we have the potential to make a real difference. And that’s what I hope this network can become. Not just a space to celebrate our successes, but a community that actively works to change the narrative for the next generation.

We also took some time to remember our late brother, Mr Oliver Adebayo, who sadly passed away shortly before completing his training as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon. He was a man who inspired so many of us, and whose legacy I hope we can continue to build upon.

This was never just about getting a group of Black men around a dinner table.

The ambition is much bigger than that.

Because if there’s one thing I’ve learnt throughout my own journey, it’s just how much of a difference it can make when someone who looks like you shows you what’s possible.

Drop me a message if you’d like to join us at the next dinner.

Guys! 🚨
—
So this month is truly special to me, as this marks 10 years since I began my journey as a Medical Doctor 👨🏾‍⚕️ (Yes I’m old 😆)
—
Those who know me, know I love to reflect on experiences and what I’ve done well what I could’ve improved on
—
I’ve been blessed enough that for me Medicine has opened many doors and given me many incredible experiences from social media, to National television, to international campaigns, to best selling books, to billboards, government health changes and many more 🔥
—
However, I’ve never forgotten the reason why I got into Medicine, my love for the Human body, and genuine human interaction where you can just be able to make somebody feel better in any way possible 🙏🏾
—
Whether it’s been on the wards, in the Emergency department, the Clinics, the home visits, The GP room, the ambulances, The ICUs, The Triage Tent you name it, I’ve loved every minute of it ❤️
—
But anyone working in a Medical field knows it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. There are highs and lows, and ups and downs, one minute you’re bringing Life into the world, the next you’re watching it slip away 😔
—
I personally have had some incredible moments which many have seen however very few people have seen the lows, the hard times the failed exams the patients lost, the burnouts, the guilt the grief the real struggle 🙈
—
And as I look towards the next 10 years I’m optimistic and encouraged as I fail, I fall, I struggle and ultimately that’s why I succeed 💪🏾
—
So I don’t know who needs to here this today but, No one is invincible and we will all go through tough times , so just remember that anything that doesn’t kill you will only make you stronger, keep pushing on and look forward to the future ❤️

Dr. Ademola Oyejobi-Mabadeje, Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery 🩺

Class of ‘26 | Proverbs 3:5-6

I’ve been dreaming of this very moment for the past five years. Today, it’s finally a reality.

I’ve always wanted to be a light in this world, to make a difference in someone’s day, no matter how small. That desire comes from being surrounded by so much light myself.

The Lord has blessed me with an incredible family and friends who have shaped my intelligence, strengthened my determination, and nurtured my capacity to love.

Becoming a doctor is a privilege that I will never take for granted. Thank you to every single person who has supported, encouraged, prayed for, challenged, and believed in me throughout this journey.

Your impact on my life is immeasurable, and I hope to pay that forward to every patient I have the privilege of caring for.

Now… it’s time to eat your apples. 🍎
