⁣⁣⁣⁣
The collaborative it works by the Bay Area artist KC Rosenberg and Modesto Covarrubias or, in many ways, conversations and exchanges of ideas between two artists made tangible and tactical. The artist intentionally blur the lines of AutoShip in the art objects they create, sometimes passing them back and forth ( as they dud in during the lockdown of the pandemic) and sometimes working together in each other studios template pieces. Both are mutually drawn to the ability of materials to transform and reassign meaning, not just in their assembly, but also in the space they occupy. Physical manifestations of forgiveness, expressing the anxieties of gentrification, or highlighting the way certain groups are systematically silenced are just some of the topics expressed in the work.⁣⁣⁣⁣

Art & Education days.
Updated to include work and correctly attribute amazing work by young artists! My apologies to Annie Xu and Ismailiya Moppin for mixing up their work on post on RoCoCo’s instagram.
Posted @withregram • @rococoprojects On October 14, 2021 we gave two gallery tours; the morning one to our students in the First Year Program at CCA in San Francisco via Zoom, and the afternoon tour to our students via Zoom and students at Saddleback College live with us in the gallery. The Drawing Studio students at CCA were given a surprise “quiz” and had to render one of the works from the “Grafting Nostalgic” series in monochromatic value.
Images by Ismailiya Moppin @ishmops.art , Zewey Pham @asianman_no.1 , Kennady Wickizer @kennadywickizer, Lewi Thute @lewivfx , and Annie Xu @annie_xuuuuuu.
The textile sculpture is called “All the Single Ladies” and is featured in our exhibition “Two Birds; One Stone” which is on view through November 12, 2021 at Saddleback Art Gallery.

Art days.

Posted @withregram • @alicia_escott The Bureau of Linguistical Reality’s offices will open Sunday February 9th just as the king tide crests at 10:10 sharp on Pacifica State Beach, Linda Mar.

We are thrilled to be working with kim Anno @anno.kim and Modesto Covarrubias @elmocostudio for this and many more events this spring. Offices will be open until 1:10 on the beach to work with the town to name the unnamed feelings, experiences and phenomena as Pacifica plans for and adapts to our rising tides.
This is our first public event in a series in Pacifica thanks to the Sanchez Art Center and the San Mateo County Office of Sustainability - we are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to host these conversations in this community.
We will work alongside Knitting It All Together, a project that invites the public to begin the Pacifica collective knitting project for the giant Sea Level Rise Tablecloth created for the Pancake Breakfast in May 2020. Modesto Covarrubias will lead the public effort to contribute to a recycled plastic giant tablecloth. This is the first in a series of workshops that will instruct participants on basic knitting techniques and making yarn from recycled/repurposed plastic. Come create a giant table cloth for the final gathering. Bring your plastic, knitting needles, or just your enthusiasm!

See you on the beach!

Art and studio days. Making yarn from repurposed plastic. The yarn is being used to create a giant tablecloth for an event in May 2020 on the beach in Pacifica, California. The project is called “Pacific A Future” and takes place from January to May, 2020. Incorporating interactive workshops, public engagement, and participatory performances, artists Kim Anno, Alicia Escott (with Heidi Quante as The Bureau of Linguistical Reality), and Modesto Covarrubias will help create an intergenerational dialogue around the political and cultural implications of sea level rise.
On Sunday, February 9, 2020, at 10:10am in order to coincide with the King Tides, Modesto Covarrubias will lead a workshop on basic knitting techniques and making yarn from recycled/repurposed plastic. Participants will be able to contribute to the creation of a giant Sea Level Rise Tablecloth (see image of proposal sketch for patchwork tablecloth of knitted plastic). Anno, Escott, and Covarrubias got together in late January 2020 to begin making balls of plastic yarn for the project. Shoutout to @hellamichella_donnatella for plastic bags donation (keep ‘em coming!) The public is also invited to come contribute, and/or participate in the other public art engagement on Sunday (2/9/20) with The Bureau of Linguistical Reality.
Linda Mar Beach, Pacifica, California.
More information available from Cindy Abbott at info@sanchezartcenter.org or at meetup.com/Pacifica-Green-knitting-recyclers-Meetup-Group.

See previous post from January 28, 2020. “Pacific A Future” is presented by Sanchez Art Center and the County of San Mateo.

You are invited to join us on King Tide Day in Pacifica, California for Pacific A Future: A Public Gathering. Sunday, February 9, 2020, at King Tide (10:10am). Artists Kim Anno, Alicia Escott & Heidi Quante, and Modesto Covarrubias invite you to partake in one or both interactive public art engagements:
1) The Bureau of Linguistical Reality is a participatory artwork by Alicia Escott & Heidi Quante working with the public to recognize a collective loss for words in order to describe the emotions and experiences we are having as our world warms and climate change accelerates. Recognizing that just as new maps will need to be drawn, new words will need to be created to recognize our changing realities. The Bureau works with the public to name the unnamed feelings, experiences and phenomena of our time by creating a platform for people to identify feelings and experiences they do not have the language for. Come visit the offices of the Bureau of Linguistical Reality from 10:10am to 1:10pm at the beach.

2) Knitting It All Together is a project that invites the public to begin the Pacifica collective knitting project for the giant Sea Level Rise Tablecloth created for the Pancake Breakfast in May 2020. Modesto Covarrubias will lead the public effort to contribute to a recycled plastic giant tablecloth. This is the first in a series of workshops that will instruct participants on basic knitting techniques and making yarn from recycled/repurposed plastic. Museum days (giorni da museo). Monica Lundy’s exhibition in Rome at the Museo Laboratorio della Mente (Laboratory of the Mind Museum) is comprised of 4 major new works set among the space and collection of the museum; they are site-specific works created from a deep investigation into the archives of the asylum that is now the location of the museum. The materiality of the imagery is beautifully visceral and ghostly. Each piece reflects a calm instant that upon closer inspection reveals an intensity of repressed emotion or restraint before unleashed savagery (take note of the placement of the animals in the kitchen/dining area!) It is fascinating to be able to witness the evolution of an artist...to see how their work moves forward in concept and execution and continues to be intellectually stimulating while expressing a new way of seeing and experiencing life. Bravissima! “La Perdita del Futuro. Vite nel Santa Maria della Pietà” is on view through December 14, 2019. Curated by Giuliana Benassi. @monicalundy_ #laperditadelfuturo #museolaboratoriodellamente #monicalundy #giulianabenassi #sitespecificinstallation #santamariadellapietà #insaneasylum #installationart #contemporaryart #contemporarypainting @benassigiuliana

Educator and art days!!! I am physically and emotionally exhausted. Yesterday was a day for endings and beginnings. It began with the end of a phenomenal class. This group stole my heart and made it so difficult to say goodbye...I cannot thank them enough for being such passionately creative (and mischievous, but the good kind) people. I am filled with hope for the future by overhearing their conversations and being privy to their thoughts and concerns over many topics, ranging from quotidian to profound (beyond their years). I also am thankful that their families made it possible for them to take part in this 4 week long whirlwind of a program. It flew by so fast, and their progress was noteworthy and inspiring. I am honored to be among the marvelously talented faculty in this superb program! After the heartbreaking goodbyes it was a race to a reception in the South Bay for work by the collaborative practice I am a part of...RoCoCo! Our commissioned piece was part of the festival on the grounds at Villa Montalvo, aka Montalvo Arts Center, and the Lucas Artists Program. So many people, so many dancers and musicians, a gorgeous night, in the company of other spectacular artists and their eye popping, thought provoking, and engaging works...and many friends and members of my family there to celebrate with!!! The exhibition runs through October 25, 2019, so head on out to Montalvo and check out the works in this show...art in the garden! And so the night ended with the beginning of a celebratory exhibition of textiles in the garden. Tears of joy all day...I am dehydrated yet sustained by all the jubilation and love shared!!! @ccaprecollege @montalvoarts @lucasartres @rococoprojects #theyallhavenicknames #ccaprecollege #ccadrawingandpainting #ccaprecollege2019 #rococoprojects #montalvoartscenter #lucasartistsresidency #forgivenessthemisplacedgrace #threadsweavinghumanity #artinthegarden #rosenbergcovarrubiascollaborative
