Throwback to this article by @playy_magazine that we’re honoured to be part of, diving ‘Inside Liverpool’s New Electronic Music Renaissance’.

Notable names also mentioned in the article include: @merakiliverpool @24kitchenstreet @quarryliverpool @communeliverpool @invisiblewindfactory @modularliverpool @mumuhq @svararadio @studio._.picnic & @81_renshaw

“At the centre of this ecosystem are the people building their own platforms. Parties such as MODU:LAR and mUmU helped establish a blueprint for more adventurous club culture, while newer initiatives continue to expand the city’s underground infrastructure. Liverpool promoter Alinea Events, for example, has recently programmed nights spanning ambient, dub, minimal techno and alternative electronic music, placing local artists alongside the wider culture surrounding the dancefloor. Meanwhile, independent radio platforms including Melodic Distraction, SVARA and studio picnic are giving local DJs and selectors a space beyond the club.”

For decades, Liverpool’s musical identity has been inseparable from its past.

The Beatles, Merseybeat and the city’s guitar-band mythology remain an unavoidable part of the story.

But after dark, away from the tourist trail and the familiar soundtrack of Mathew Street, another Liverpool is making noise.

In warehouses, basements, independent radio studios and converted industrial spaces, a new generation of DJs, promoters and collectives is pushing the city’s electronic underground into a fresh chapter.
