Today, during one of the activities of the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music in the Middle Area of Gaza, we shared a musical story called "Hussam."

Hussam is a smart and talented boy—but he's also mischievous. He doesn't listen, forgets to wear his sandals, and ends up hurting his foot. Through songs, questions, and laughter, the children became part of the story instead of just listening to it.

Their energy, participation, and beautiful smiles reminded us why music matters.

In the middle of incredibly difficult circumstances, interactive musical stories give children something priceless: a chance to imagine, to laugh, to learn, and simply to be children again.

❤️ Every child deserves a moment where joy is louder than fear.

في كل مرة نروي قصة موسيقية، نكتشف أن الموسيقى ليست مجرد أغنية... بل مساحة آمنة يضحك فيها الأطفال، ويتعلمون، ويعيشون طفولتهم من جديد. ❤️

اليوم، في أحد أنشطة معهد إدوارد سعيد الوطني للموسيقى في المنطقة الوسطى، عشنا مع الأطفال قصة "حسام"... الطفل الذكي والشاطر، لكنه كان مشاغبًا، لا يسمع الكلام، ولم يلبس شبشبه، فتعرّضت قدمه للإصابة.

لكن الأجمل من القصة... كان تفاعل الأطفال. كانوا يغنون، يضحكون، يجيبون على الأسئلة، ويعيشون كل لحظة بحماس وكأنهم أبطال القصة.

في ظل هذه الظروف الصعبة، تبقى الأنشطة الموسيقية والقصص التفاعلية من أجمل الوسائل التي تمنح الأطفال مساحة للأمل، والخيال، والفرح.

💙 لأن كل طفل يستحق لحظة ينسى فيها الخوف... ويستعيد فيها ابتسامته.

One day, Shadi ran toward the valley to see what was happening... and he never came back.

🚨 Can music heal children in the middle of war? Today, I shared our answer live on Al Jazeera English.
From Deir Al-Balah, Gaza, I spoke about the transformative power of music and how it has become more than just an art form—it has become a lifeline for children living through war.
We discussed how music helps children express emotions, process trauma, rebuild confidence, and rediscover hope when everything around them has changed.
I also shared the story of how this journey began, and how a simple idea grew into a movement that continues to bring smiles, strength, and healing to hundreds of children through music.

من دير البلح في غزة، تحدثت عن قوة الموسيقى وكيف أصبحت أكثر من مجرد فن؛ أصبحت وسيلة تمنح الأطفال مساحة آمنة للتعبير، وتساعدهم على استعادة الأمل والثقة رغم كل ما يعيشونه.
تحدثنا عن الأثر الحقيقي للموسيقى في دعم الأطفال نفسيًا، وكيف بدأت هذه الرحلة، وتحولت من فكرة بسيطة إلى مشروع يصل إلى مئات الأطفال، يمنحهم لحظات من الفرح والقوة وسط الحرب.

Today, I celebrate every father who sacrifices for his family, and every teacher who carries the heart of a father—guiding, protecting, and inspiring the next generation.
As a father, I know what it means to fight for your children's dreams when the world around you feels uncertain. As a music teacher, I see my students as part of my family, helping them find hope, joy, and strength through music.

قد يهدمون البيوت، وقد تسرق الحرب منا الكثير، لكنهم لن يستطيعوا أن يأخذوا منا حبنا لأطفالنا.
في عيد الأب، أحيّي كل أب يحمل همّ عائلته على كتفيه، وكل معلم يقف أمام طلابه ليزرع فيهم أملاً جديداً رغم الألم.
أنا أب، وأعرف معنى أن تخاف على أطفالك، أن تبحث لهم عن الأمان، وأن تحاول أن تحافظ على أحلامهم حية وسط كل هذا الدمار. وأنا أيضاً معلم، أرى في طلابي أبناءً وبناتٍ يستحقون أن يغنوا، وأن يفرحوا، وأن يحلموا بمستقبل أجمل.

I went back to my home during the first ceasefire…
I stood above the ruins of my destroyed house, studio, and musical instruments.

Everything was gone.
The memories, the music, the life we built.

I was deeply overwhelmed.
I cried while standing there…
And in that moment, above the rubble of my home, I wrote this song.

This song is for every family that lost a home.
For every child still dreaming under the destruction.
For everyone who still believes that Gaza will rise again.
