Last chance to see IPHIGENIA! Sun 10/25 at 2pm. PLEASE NOTE: We’ll be asking the box office to release more Arts Access tickets when they open at 12pm! Also, if you’re coming from the East Bay, the freeway closures are creating serious traffic. We recommend taking transit or allowing generous additional time.

We are excited to film Sharp & Fine’s latest work “IPHIGENIA” this weekend at ZSpace. Physically theatrical work like Sharp & Fine’s benefits from front row camera setups when possible, which allow for a detailed rendering of text & character as well as a rich kinesthetic capture of movement.

This weekend @sharpandfine is performing in a Iphigenia. From the dance to the story to the music, it absolutely took my breathe away.
A few months ago I got the chance to take their promotional photos. What a privilege to be amongst such a powerful cast of collaborators.

IPHIGENIA performances are this week! When we started making this show, we wanted to box ourselves into a tragedy and see what happened when we beat on the walls. Now, it’s time to bring everything into the theater and let our Iphigenia, Agamemnon, Achilles, and Chorus tell their story.

Like sands through the hourglass…….⏳🌀✨

Oh s*** it’s almost Christmas.

No, but really, time has been flying by. So grateful for the many celebrations, adventures, and new beginnings (planned and sometimes forced 😅) that color this time. 🍂🍃

IPHIGENIA is one month away, so we thought it was time to introduce our characters. First up, @molevy is Iphigenia ❤️‍🔥

The whole time we’ve been making this show, we’ve found ourselves picking at threads about heroes and sacrifices. And now here we are, almost at the end of it, making this duet for our versions of Iphigenia and Achilles with @molevy and @smileypiley 🩷🩷

It’s so hard to make the last thing you’re going to give the audience to take with them as they go back out into the world. If you think too hard about it, it feels a little like making an argument for the worthwhileness of coming together to be in the same place and same time to watch other people tell you a story. No pressure! Here are @molevy and @smileypiley working on the last bit of the last part of IPHIGENIA, which we have very unsubtly nicknamed “catharsis.” You can hear a little snippet of @wienerkids’s gorgeous music.

Also, @zacchosf has one of the most picturesque dance spaces in SF 😍

TALK STORY was such a sweet, inspiring show. We shared work alongside artists who we admire very much. We all tried out new things. We gave our audience the chance to experience four perspectives on storytelling with dance. And we had delicious snacks! Here’s hoping we can make it happen again next year🤞

“When we are in the frame of mind which nourishes hau [Maori term, roughly translated to spirit of the forest and often the spirit of gift exchange itself], we identify with the spirit of the gift, not with its particular embodiments, and whoever has identified with the spirit will seek to keep the gift in motion. Therefore, the sign of the identity is generosity, gratefulness, or the act of gratitude.”

-Lewis Hyde: The Gift pg 193

Taking a moment this morning to reflect on how grateful I am for each of you, and really resonating with the spirit of the gift.

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes, thanks also if you were one of the people to donate to my humble little birthday, wedding, car fund, it truly means a lot and really helps.

I feel like I’ve been in an almost hermetic period, an extended cutaway from sharing my music and things more outwardly, and that’s been very good for me in a number of ways. But I feel I’m entering a new chapter in many ways all at once and that chapter is going to involve a lot of sharing of my musical gifts and doing so generously.

I’ve been slowly digesting the lessons from The Gift by Lewis Hyde, and I dare say if you identify as any sort of creative person it’s required reading.

All to say that, in identifying with the spirit of gift exchange, I’m coming into a new chapter in which I intend to continue nourishing the community spirit and my own personal gifts in tandem and I hope that you understand that this flows through me from an unending spring of gratitude and a desire to nourish the spirit that I cannot truly articulate with words.

Love you all 🙏♥️
