Its taken me a real long time to post something about her... but a few weeks ago, right before 4th of July, I had to let go of a part of myself. Almost 16 years Xena has been my partner in crime. Loyal to no end, fearless and dependable. She has seen me through almost every bad time of my life and been there for most of the goods. She was born in our house and i knew at first sight I was keeping this puppy.

Last couple years she lost hearing, some sight, some mobility but she still had fight, still herded everything, still hiked for hours and was always ready to hit the road... but she developed some tumors that wouldnt allow her to go to the bathroom comfortably, they grew to the point that her back legs could barely serve her at all... and then we found out they were cancer... we knew this time would come... I swore i was prepared... but I wasnt and I am still not... I have tried for weeks to post something but I cant hold myself together enough to do it... but at some point I gotta face this...

Many people have dogs in their life but few get sent such a perfect match, such a gift... i was undeserving, unfit yet the dog of my dreams was born in my hands and it forced me to grow up, evolve, mature and more all in the hopes I could give her (and later my wife, son and family) the best life that I possibly could. Shes a major reason why even started a homestead of sorts to begin with... because its where an aussie belongs... From south Florida to the midwest, countless road trips and national parks in between. I not only said goodbye to a best friend but to an era and a version of myself... as she was one of the last remnants of that era...

We have lost alot this year. Much of which I havent posted much about either... and its only halfway through the year...

Getting another dog doesnt replace a past one it just expands the heart and it definitely helps you appreciate the ones that come after even more so...

This will likely be my last dog... as in for the sole purpose of being mine... and that stings... but I am excited to see Miles experience what I just have with Xena... one day when he meets his match...

Lastly I have to thank God for Xena. A true gift
