‘COMMON FOLK’ took the form of a 128-page, inkjet-printed hardback photobook, featuring over 130 darkroom prints, all photographed between February and April of this year across Winchester and the Candover Valley.

A massive thank you to everybody who contributed to the project in one way or another. Being able to showcase the wonderful world of British and Irish folklore to new audiences in a way that feels accessible and relatable has been an incredibly fulfilling experience, and something I continue to feel passionately about exploring through my fashion imagery.

A special thank you to the people below, who helped shape and support the project throughout its development. X

The peacock feather saree x 3 drape to close the Satya Paul @satyapaulindia show at Lancaster house as part of SXSW @sxsw 2026 in London. Marking new creative director Aseem Kapoor’s @aseemkapoorm first line of prints and menswear, we draped the prints archival and new on the body and constructed garments. Blazers, tshirts and trousers wrapped in sarees to look like the prints are almost growing on them. Been waiting to get a chance to go into the archive of SP prints and showing them like this whatever the backdrop may be. THE MOCK MAYOR
‘COMMON FOLK’ 3/8

A celebration of folklore across the British and Emerald Isles - an homage to my British and Irish heritage, ‘Common Folk’ is a reclamation of what being British truly is. Growing up within the English countryside, folklore has always been, and will continue to be, a part of who I am. By using the language of contemporary fashion pictures, this series aims to inform a new audience by reflecting on and exploring British and Irish folklore practises in a form they can relate to and understand throughout, for new generations to truly understand their own heritage.

Each of the 8 shoots, all shot on film and printed within the darkroom, reference a different folklore tale, as accompanied by a contextual paragraph within the book.
