September Book Club took us to @emandmecafe, which is an API locally owned business in Germantown! We enjoyed dinner and drinks with special guest @cartlin.fleed from @nplfoundation. Our discussion on The Emperor of Gladness by @ocean_vuong noted how symbol-heavy the writing style, so often used by poets, led many to question the novel’s genre. Early on, several members expected a fantastical or ghostly element. A few were unsure whether the novel was cohesive in its genre throughout. What did you think? #bookclub #bookstagram #nashvillebookclub #bookclubofinstagram #bookworms

Our September Book Pick is @ocean_vuong’s Emperor of Gladness! 📖 This novel is about 19-year-old Hai, a struggling college dropout dealing with grief and addiction, who becomes the caretaker for an elderly Lithuanian widow with dementia named Grazina after she stops him from jumping off a bridge. 🌉 What will transpire in the end? We read “Time Is a Mother” last year and thrilled that Ocean is coming to Nashville in November! 💁🏻‍♂️ He is the 2026 @nplfoundation Literary Award Recipient! So well deserved. We are looking forward to heading to @emandmecafe, who will host us this month! ☕️ See you in a few weeks. #bookclub #bookworm #oceanvuong #nashvillebookclub #bookstagram

August Book Club took us to @nooshcuisine! We had a blast trying Persian cuisine— many, for the first time. We ordered fesenjān, kabab koobideh, saffron ice cream, and so much more! We had a robust discussion about The Lion Women of Tehran by @marjankamali7 that shed light on writing style, storyline, and character development. We focused on friendship this month and it made many of us nostalgic regarding our own friendships we have had through our lives. We look forward to being in discussion with Marjan next month to continue the conversation on this month’s book pick. #bookclub #friendship #nashvillebookclub #bookclubofinstagram #bookworms

Our June book pick is Eve by @cat.bohannon! 🚺 We cannot wait to learn how the female body drove 200,000,000 years of human evolution. 👄 Love that the chapters follow one of women’s defining features all the way back to its origins— Eve, Eves, or Edens! 🦵🏽Hope to see you in a few weeks at book club. 📚 Happy Immigrant Heritage Month and Happy Pride! 🏳️‍🌈#bookstagrammer #bookclub #books #nashvillebookclub #femalebody
