🎧Calling all podcast lovers! We’ve got a must-listen episode for you.

On the latest episode of “Let’s Talk Art with Brooke,” your favorite art barista explores “Art on Prescription,” a powerful new program in partnership with Novant Health designed to combat loneliness through the healing power of art.

Brooke sits down with the Bechtler’s Assistant Director for Education, Molly Phillips, who shares the inspiration behind the initiative:
“So much about healthcare is about eliminating things from your life... But we are really excited about this, because it’s a positive program — it’s about adding something to your life.”

Click the link in our bio to access the conversation and learn how museum visits are being prescribed to foster connection, creativity, and community.

BIG NEWS: Today, we’re proud to announce a powerful new partnership with @novanthealth to combat loneliness through the healing power of art. 🎨💙

Charlotte Art on Prescription is a first-of-its-kind program in the U.S. led by a museum, offering one year of free access to arts programming and cultural experiences in Charlotte. Referred participants will attend initial sessions at the Bechtler, where they’ll begin a journey toward social connection and emotional well-being through the arts.

This initiative is our response to the 2023 U.S. Surgeon General’s report, which found that 1 in 2 adults experience significant loneliness.

“Art has the power to bring people together,” says Executive Director Todd D. Smith. “Through this groundbreaking partnership, we can share that connection with those who need it most.”

Developed and led by our Assistant Director of Education, @molly_phillips0, this program is a vital step in using creativity to build community and improve lives. 💫

🎉 Last week, we welcomed our first Pre-K group, Park Road Baptist Child Development Center, to the Bechtler as part of Bechtler Art Stories!

Guided by Molly Phillips, our Assistant Director for Education, the class explored art-inspired stories, discovered shapes and colors in works from “Chance Encounters: Surrealism Then and Now” and “Clare Rojas: Past the Present,” and created their own Clare Rojas-inspired masterpieces.

📚 In partnership with Smart Start and MECK Pre-K, this program combines arts and literacy to foster creativity, critical thinking, and Kindergarten Readiness in Charlotte’s youngest learners.

We’re thrilled to expand this program and inspire more young art explorers!
