Beach Sessions Dance Series celebrated its 12th season on Rockaway Beach with a new site-specific contemporary dance work by choreographer @alaxawast. Exploring the body’s relationship to landscape and image, West used sand as both stage and material -- transforming the shoreline into a cinematic canvas where movement and terrain continually shape one another. Amusement, a new work by Alexa West Commissioned by Beach Sessions Performed Saturday, Sept 12, 6pm Rockaway Beach, Queens Drawing on decades of cinematic and televisual dance that privileges entertainment, spectacle, and effortlessness—from 1940s Hollywood musicals to 1980s Italian variety shows—Alexa West reinterprets, and at times distorts, these onscreen choreographies, producing a work of pastiche that estranges as much as it cites.  Choreographed by Alexa West Performed by Tim Bendernagel, Isabelle Dayton, Cayleen Del Rosario, Benin Gardner, Amelia Heintzelman, Jordan Lloyd, Owen Prum, Molly Ross

I have a four-channel video on view at DDDD @dddd.pictures in Tribeca as part of Rara, curated by Blake Oetting. Go see the show before it closes on August 1. ⚾️ Alexa West uses the score as part of her choreographic practice. Adapted from Bob Fosse and Carol Haney’s duet in “From This Moment On” from Kiss Me, Kate, the artist’s four-channel installation takes the dance’s archetypal rendering of male and female relationships as a gendered schema to tinker with and unspool. Working with two dancers, one male and one female, West choreographs each into both Fosse’s and Haney’s roles, dressed alternately as a witch or a baseball player. The result is a programmatic video score in which four distinct gender arrangements are performed, demonstrating the ways “male” and “female” operate as readymade devices and dancerly languages within the language of the Hollywood musical. — Blake Oetting Witch Baseball, 2026 Four-channel video installation 1:54 Dancers: Owen Prum and Molly Ross Cinematography: Kayhl Cooper Thank you, Bob. ⭐️ Introducing PMF40 Artist Molly Ross! ⭐️ Molly is a dancer and choreographer from Michigan. She has been based in NYC since 2017. Her solo projects have been presented at Grace Exhibition Space, PAGEANT, Essex Flowers, FourOneOne, and the Wild Project. She is also in an ongoing collaboration with Nola Sporn Smith. As a performer she has recently worked with Melinda Ring, Laurel Atwell, Juliana May, Alexa West, Peter BD, and others. When not dancing Molly works as a bookkeeper.  🎟️ Performance Mix is next week!
