#SpeyWithUWOTF - Spey Cast Categories

There are two Spey cast categories. Touch-and-Go Spey casting uses a brief water anchor and smooth, continuous motion to load the rod and deliver the cast. Sustained Anchor Spey casting keeps the line anchored on the water longer, allowing easier rod loading and better handling of heavy flies and sink tips.

UWOTF Education is about elevating women fishing instructors, empowering anglers, and breaking down stereotypes about who can teach and lead in the fishing community.

Last weekend we crashed the fun with @spokanewomenonthefly at their Annual Summer Suds event. We made new friends, reconnected with friends found near and far, and got some great intel on new water. It was inspiring to see the success of a group who have been doing this on the fly thing for awhile, can’t wait to bring some of their stoke home to Puget Sound. Thanks everyone for the open armed welcome, me and Marley had an absolute blast - @swoot

Summer Suds was everything we love about fly fishing—learning, laughter, mentorship, community, and time on the water.

A special thank you to our Casting Doctor, Molly Semenik, FFI Master Certified Casting Instructor, for holding office hours and helping us diagnose and cure all of our casting ailments. Your expertise, patience, and encouragement made a difference for us all!

Thank you to Heather Hodson with @ifishibelong and @unitedwomenonthefly, along with Elizabeth Simpson, Amy Carlson, and Lindy Orozco of @spokanewomenonthefly for bringing together such an incredible event. Your hard work created an experience that will be remembered long after the weekend ended.

We are also grateful to every mentor and mentee who attended, shared their knowledge, asked questions, offered encouragement, and helped build the welcoming community that makes this event so special.

Summer Suds is more than a fishing weekend. It’s a special event, in a special place, with a very special group of people. We are already looking forward to next year.

This year was truly one for the books. We couldn’t have asked for a more incredibly beautiful day on the banks of the Skagit River. Seeing the water lined with folks casting rods, sharing tips, and enjoying the sunshine is exactly what this event is all about.

As 2025 comes to a close, @iFishiBelong extends heartfelt gratitude to the individuals recognized as this year’s Be What You Don’t See Leaders. Through their stories and lived experiences, they’ve expanded awareness, opened doors for dialogue, and pushed this movement toward meaningful change. Their voices, vulnerability, and leadership are driving real change.

This year reminded us why we do this work: to cultivate new leaders in the fishing industry, leaders who reflect the richness, diversity, and brilliance of our communities. Because, after all, the world would be far more boring if we all looked and thought the same.

It’s been a wonderful fall season! So appreciative for time spent with everyone. In a world of confusion, tension, disagreement it’s nice to come together and enjoy the natural world with loved ones and friendships. #bekind #liveinthemoment #love

October was full of some very high highs and some low lows.

I kicked off the month with an amazing trip to Bristol Bay, Alaska, spending quality time with my dad my @thelodgeat58north family. New friends were made, karaoke was sung, gourmet meals were eaten, chromers were caught, and there were plenty of belly aching laughs and therapy sessions every night.

Next, Georgia bound for an emotional weekend volunteering at the #BeccaSueKleinAllKidsFish event with @crkeeper. It hit hard realizing it was my first time making that drive without Becca by my side. The words were hard to articulate just how special Becca was to me during the celebration of life. 💔

Wrapping up the month was steelhead camp with my besties @ragingriversales and @lunadogneufeld, plus my amazing girlfriends @bridgetmayfieldphotography, @mollysemenik, @imtheboaz, and @lizzieanne_s. Casts were good, bad, long, and short. Fish were caught, sunrises and sunsets were unreal, naps were taken, family dinners were made, wine and whiskey was poured, and the laughter echoed across the canyons. I even got to reel in a literal 7-foot dinosaur of a sturgeon that absolutely whooped me. Huge thanks to @akchromechasers for the invite and @millsfly for capturing the moment.

Between all that, there were still hospital shifts and nonprofit hours sprinkled in; doing the adulting thing, paying the mortgage, and keeping the mission of @ifishibelong moving forward.

This month reiterates why it's so important to live your life, spend time with the people you want to and the healing power of being outside! I'm so grateful to have the community that I do! ❤️❤️
