Dolly will always be a national treasure. It’s hard to imagine a world without her sparkle, wit, and love for all. I know she’s with her husband, Carl, now and she’ll continue to inspire us for generations to come. I know her spirit lives in all of us who cherish her, and we’ll honor her living by the example she set. Dolly showed us how to wear your heart on a rhinestone sleeve. She taught us that success and wealth never have to come at the expense of our neighbors… that we can enjoy the fruits of our work and lift others at the same time.

Several summers ago, I saw this painting at the Manayunk Art Festival. I debated spending the money to take Dolly home that day, but every day since I am glad I did. Anything that brings you joy is worth the cost, and there is truly nothing like supporting the handcrafted work of artists. This portrait was painted by the lovely @mommarain and I’m proud to see it in my kitchen every morning (while I pour myself a cup of ambition).

Thank you, @mommarain for this piece and thank you @dollyparton for everything you’ve created and shared with us these past 80 years. I know Dolly’s light will never stop shining, and I know there will always be a soft, angelic hum ringing over the smoky mountains if we listen closely enough 🦋

DISSENT features Momma Rain ( @mommarain ), who paints vibrant figurative works shaped by her experience as a first-generation Filipina American. Her cherub-like figures, at first whimsical, reveal grittier truths about race, separation, and identity in America.

Come join us for DISSENT! The opening reception will take place Saturday, October 18 from 6-8pm at Atrium Artspace.
