When a ten year old is reading your book and already eagerly awaiting to read Books 2 and 3 in the series that haven't been completed yet…you take notice!🥹

When I got the comment from one of my followers that she and her ten year old grandaughter are reading my book together and that she can't wait to read the next two in the series, this is what makes an indie author keep going.

The fact that the two main characters in the book are grandmother and granddaughter, Grandma ZuZu and Harriet Honeybee, and are very close, it made it even more special. (if you love magic that’s in there as well)🪄✨

I was so tickled when she also got excited that her grandmother knows me. Celebrity I am not, but in the mind of a child holding your book in their hands…welll! 🤷🏽‍♀️😉

All I know is that this is what makes it all worthwhile when you feel like you’re getting no traction and marketing yourself feels like a blackhole!

For my new friend, I’m going to keep at it because someone is waiting for book 2 and 3 and I do not want to disappoint!

With love,
S.L. Taveras

Link to book, Harriet Honeybee and the Testament of Seers, in bio if your curios as too what she’s so excited about. 😉

Me manifesting…imagining my book on local bookstores' shelves, people's homes, and always been the dream…B&N.

What's the imagination for if not for play, pretending and practicing what it feels like to live your dreams?

So until then...here’s to manifesting our dreams!

My most recent writing about when life hits you hard and you want to hit it right back!

“If womanhood, motherhood, heck…humanhood feels like a sacred spiral, part spiritual practice, part primal scream,🪷 MOMTEMPLATIVE🕯️, is where you’ll feel seen, heard, and hopefully a little less alone in this human family we all find ourselves in. I invite readers to slow down, give yourself a lot of grace as you contemplate life, and everything in between. Because, let’s be honest, there’s a lot of life that happens in the in-between.”

If you follow me you know I am a self published author and also have been writing my thoughts long before the internet even existed. 😉

Momtemplative, my publication on Substack, is where I write long form essays about writerly things I think about and I want to remember and share.

Head on over to my publication and give a look see. Would love to meet you there!

Attending an Artist and Writers Residency I highly recommend!

I attended my first one in France this year @chateau_orquevaux and it was one of the most magical and memorable experiences of my life.

I grew as a writer, rediscovered my writing voice by having time to just be with myself with zero distractions and connected with other artists who speak my creative language.

I made forever friendships from around the world @studio_chateau_orquevaux where we meetup on zoom once a month.

Wherever you are in your artists journey, attending one of these I highly recommend!

One decision to return to myself, to give myself the very love I was giving to everyone else changed everything.

And it seemed to have been waiting for me all along.

Being accepted to The April 2026 Artists and Writers Residency in France @chateau_orquevaux
Flying solo to France!
Finally completing and self publishing my debut book Harriet Honeybee and the Testament of Seers
Attending my first ever book event where I got to meet readers and other indie authors.
Having my own publication on Substack

And so much more.

Just choose you. The version of you that wants to travel, write a book, build a business…fill in the blank.

It’s good to remember where you’ve been and come through in those moments where there feels like there is no movement.

I promise you, you’re farther along than you think!

Once you make that one small shift and choose…the world opens up!

What does heaven on earth look and feel@like for you?

It doesn't have to be some big event. It can be as simple as the touch of your lover's hand upon your skin, or the laughter if your child coming from another room.

I have many heaven on earth moments.

What's yours?

Writing the crappy stuff 💩is the whole point of eventually getting to the good stuff.

The messy middle in the creative process can feel soul crushing. (Ok, I’m a bit dramatic but that’s what it can feel like when nothings hitting) 🥴😅.

The point is that It’s ok to have meltdowns in the middle of the messy. It’s not meant to be perfect in the beginning.

That’s why there’s a beginning middle and end.

And as many drafts as your heart and soul and sanity requires.😉

Just keep going.

If you enjoyed the book Children of Blood and Bone (I’m super excited to see the movie!), I think you'll love my book Harriet Honeybee and the Testament of Seers.

Seeing people of color portraying characters who use magic in a movie, let alone a book, for me is the magic.✨✨

The main characters in my book, Harriet Honeybee and the Testament of Seers, are people of color, magic being deeply woven into their lineage, featuring seers, portals, time travel, and of course with that comes alot of adventure.

At the heart of my story is what we do for family, whether blood or chosen, and a deep longing to understand who we are and where we come from.

This was something personal to me, and I infused it into Harriet’s story.

That longing for history and the deep sense that there’s more to our world and ourselves than what our eyes can see.

Adding magic to the story and seeing it lived through by people of color in such a powerful way makes my inner child feel like I can finally be part of a magical story, doing things I could only imagine.

If you're craving more of that, I invite you to check out my book Harriet Honeybee and the Testament of Seers.

Link in my bio. 📕

Otherwise… see you at the movies! 🍿 🎥
