Different, not less. Today and everyday.

Today makes me think of my son — and of every family raising and loving a child on the spectrum.

Today is a reminder of what we should all be fighting for: a world that sees our kids as different, not less. A world where accommodations are the norm, not the afterthought, and where every child is met with understanding, dignity, and real acceptance.

He does not need less of who he is. He needs more people who understand him.

Today, I’m thinking of my son, and of all the families, caregivers, and advocates working every day to build a world where our kids belong exactly as they are. 💙

A simple setup that keeps little hands busy and focused and perfect for a calm afternoon activity.⁠

Here's what you’ll need:⁠
🩵 Dot markers⁠
🩵 Glue stick⁠
🩵 Sheet of paper⁠
🩵 Strips of paper in rainbow colours⁠

How to set it up:⁠
1️⃣ Cut strips in different rainbow colours.⁠
2️⃣ Use dot markers to create two matching colour dots on the page.⁠
3️⃣ Add glue and connect the matching dots with the same coloured strip to form an arch.⁠

This has already been out a week and I forgot to post it! Here's our toy rotation for the first fortnight of the summer school holidays:
• Silisoft village and wobble rainbow from @tickit_education
• Pop stick puzzle cards by @momtoolbox - bought from her TPT store
• Addition City and Takeaway Town games by @where_learning_meets_play and bought from here TPT store, with multi link cubes (Bobbin is obsessed with these at school, so I bought a set last year from Amazon)
• Small world zoo: animal figures and fences (Bunny has since added felt shapes to represent water, grass, mud etc to this as well)

🍀✨ Lucky Math ✨🍀

The boys rolled dice and marked their shamrocks—we started with a single die, then added a second for some lucky addition! 🎲🌿

Engaging in seasonal activities like this keeps learning exciting while strengthening those little hands and fingers. Plus, a little themed math practice makes everything more fun!

PHONICS SUPRISE PRESENTS

I downloaded this printable from @momtoolbox a few weeks ago and only just got round to using it with Bunny. You glue the blank presents on top of the matching CVC word/image cards, then shine a light through them to decode and read the words. Bunny really enjoyed this activity and I was impressed how well she did after a week off school and very little phonics practice over Xmas! A couple of the words were more suited to American English (i.e. 'rig' for a lorry), but that just prompted discussion. Even her older brother got involved with this activity as the 'shine a light' aspect was a really good hook for the learning!

تجربة لعب حسيّة: تكاثر الحشرات بالبيض 🐞🦋🥚

نثير فضول الطفل عن طريق إدخال مفهوم التكاثر بالبيض بطريقة لعب مسلية وممتعة 🌟

استخدمت جيلاتين (جلو) شفاف وسكبته في قوالب سيلكون مع حشرات 🐝 لتمثيل البيض وعملية التفقيس

وبعدها قدمت أوراق على شكل بيضة مطبوعة بصور حشرات ومغطية بطبقة ورق ثانية لإنشاء خدعة الكشف عن الأجنة من @momtoolbox 😍

الـbin filler جهزته بخلط عدس أخضر وأحمر مع شعيرية لونتها باللون الأخضر 💚

Follow me and comment LEAF for the resources we used and the directions for this activity.

Directions:

1. Turn on your laminator to get it warmed up. Set aside.
2. Grab some leaves. 🍂
3. Paint! We used black & white acrylic paint for Halloween. 👻
4. Let it dry for 15 mins.
5. Use acrylic paint pens to draw on the painted leaves. We went with a Halloween theme.
6. Let it dry for 15 mins.
7. Add leaves to a laminator sheet.
8. Use a heavy book on top of the laminator sheet to flatten out the leaves.
9. Add laminator sheet with the leaves inside carefully into the laminator.
10. Cut and shape your creation to any shape such as a bookmark! 🔖

Tip: If you are using this idea for a class with little ones, then paint the leaves beforehand to save time. Always supervise play!

My kids had a lot of fun designing their own bookmark, flattening the leaves with books and watching their creation go through the laminator. We will definitely be making a holiday version soon. We got this pressed leaf bookmark idea from @momtoolbox and we added a Halloween twist to it!
