HOLOBIONT, a grouped group show
Berlin Art Week 2026

Only a few days after the Hamburg Art Week, the art week season continued in Berlin.

While our new space in Hamburg is still taking shape, Billy Jacob @billy____jacob, Director of Kollektion888, had the pleasure of serving on the jury for HOLOBIONT alongside curator Jan Gustav Fiedler @jangustavfiedler, Pola van den Hövel @guuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurl, Director and Curator of Villa Schöningen, and art historian, critic and author Jennifer Braun @thegenzartcritic.

Following an open call with a large number of submissions, the jury selected the exhibition concepts that came together across RWK Studios during Berlin Art Week. 7 Independently conceived group exhibitions, each with its own curatorial approach and artistic positions, formed one temporary ecosystem.

Seeing what developed from that initial selection process has been particularly rewarding.

For Kollektion888, collecting has always been about more than acquiring works. Supporting emerging artists, creating visibility and contributing to the contexts in which artistic practices can develop are equally important parts of what we do.

Ein Mix aus Ausstellungsansichten, Führungen und Food Installation.

Meistens sind Visionen in der Realität anders als in der Vorstellung. Oft sind sie kleiner und vielleicht schöner in unseren Träumen.

Anders hier: Diese Woche hat alle Erwartungen und Vorstellungen übertroffen und ist mehr geworden, als wir uns hätten wünschen können.

Voller Dankbarkeit blicken wir zurück auf die vergangenen Wochen, auf all die tollen menschlichen Gespräche und Begegnungen und auf alles, was uns berührt und bewegt hat.

No stories, no mirrors brings together works by Mona Schulzek, Tatjana Vall, Justin Urbach and Maxine Weiss in a spatial constellation shaped by darkness, partial illumination and shifting perception. Sound, light, video and sculpture unfold across the hall, creating an atmospheric environment in which individual works appear, disappear and connect. Milena Wohjan extends this atmosphere through the body, introducing a performative layer shaped by ritual, symbolism and the subconscious.

Was ist uns fremder: das Weltall oder die Tiefsee?

In Mona Schulzeks Arbeiten „Outer Space Transmitter“ und „Chamber VI“ treffen beide aufeinander. Eine selbst gebaute Funkstation sendet Botschaften ins All. Ein verzerrter Spiegel führt zu Point Nemo im Südpazifik, dem abgelegensten Punkt der Weltmeere. Dort versinken die Überreste ausgedienter Raumfahrzeuge im Ozean.

What is more alien to us: outer space or the deep sea?
Both come together in Mona Schulzek’s works “Outer Space Transmitter” and “Chamber Six.” A self-built radio station sends messages into space. A distorted mirror leads to Point Nemo in the South Pacific—the point in the world’s oceans farthest from land. There, the remains of decommissioned spacecraft sink into the ocean.

A look back at this year so far.

From exhibitions and graduate shows to readings, workshops and member-led projects, the first eight months of 2026 have brought an exciting flow of new work, ideas and people through the Charity.

Thank you to the artists, members, collaborators and audiences there is plenty more to come this Autumn.

In das sommerliche Wochenende starten wir mit einer weiteren Ausgabe der #StipVisite! In unserer Serie stellen wir die KUNSTFONDS_Stipendiat:innen 2026 anhand jeweils eines Werkes vor. Wir wollen damit aufzeigen, wie vielfältig die vom Kunstfonds geförderten künstlerischen Positionen sind und Lust darauf machen, die bundesweite Kunstszene zu entdecken. Diesmal stellen wir Stipendiat:innen aus Berlin und Düsseldorf vor.

Chamber VI, a work by @mona_schulzek continues its journey with its next stop at the @arpmuseum. Opening tomorrow.

The metallic object [..] consists of ring-shaped components that are wedged into one another. The artist assembled them from both used and new materials that she herself has worked on. Tapering conically, these rings form central openings which [..] Schulzek seals with a round window and a semi-transparent, spherical mirror, condensing the structure into a capsule-like form. While the interior of the sculpture contains emptiness, the layering of the curved glass creates the optical effect of a human eye. The viewer is thus met with a gaze-complete with iris, pupil, and the upside-down reflection of their own image. Two drogue parachutes, attached to the capsule by a thick rope, lie slack on the tloor of the exhibition space. They evoke the impression ot a space capsule that has just come to rest shortly after touching down on Earth. Text by @evvaoberhofer

Artist to watch: Mona Schulzek (*1992) @mona_schulzek is a Berlin-based artist who studied at the Art Academy Düsseldorf in Germany. Her practice is situated in the dialogue between art and science, with a particular focus on astronomy. Driven by a profound interest in the relationship between human existence and the infinite dimensions of time and space, she understands art as a cosmic language – a form of knowledge that transcends formulas and words. Schulzek engages with the universe as something we are inherently part of – as thinking matter seeking to understand itself. Her practice weaves together rational knowledge and poetic intuition to connect the known with the unknown.

Tales of Traces, Stones and Moonlight.

Die Preisträgerinnen des Kunstpreises „junger westen“ Jeewi Lee @jeewilee, Mona Schulzek @mona_schulzek und Jeehye Song @wisdomsong aus der Sammlung der Kunsthalle Recklinghausen präsentiert in der Villa Romana in Florenz. Kuratiert von Nico Anklam @nicoanklam, mit der wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeit von Kerstin Weber Baumann und der kuratorischen Assistenz von Theresa Widua @theresawidua.

Die Zusammenarbeit unserer beiden Institutionen, der Kunsthalle Recklinghausen und der Villa Romana in Florenz trägt den Titel „Mutual Presence“. Es kooperieren damit der älteste deutsche Kunstpreis überhaupt, vergeben von der Villa Romana in Florenz, und der älteste Kunstpreis der Nachkriegszeit, beheimatet in der Kunsthalle.

The collaboration between our two institutions, Kunsthalle Recklinghausen and Villa Romana in Florence, carries the title “Mutual Presence.” It brings together Germany’s oldest art prize, awarded by Villa Romana in Florence, and the country’s oldest postwar art prize, awarded by Kunsthalle Recklinghausen. Curated by Nico Anklam, with Kerstin Weber-Baumann, research curator and Theresa Widua, curatorial assistant.
