POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

You check the weather. Do you check yourself?

We check the forecast before we leave the house.

Temperature. Wind. Visibility. Whether we’re going to need another layer.

But what about what we’re walking into the world with?

The sleep we didn’t get. The pressure we’re carrying. The energy we have. The capacity to recover, connect, participate, and actually enjoy being alive.

Meanwhile, the world keeps doing whatever the hell it’s doing.

So we report on both.

Real weather from Sun Valley. Science, culture, medicine, technology, relationships, and the sometimes absurd conditions of being human.

Not to tell you to optimize harder.

But to offer a little perspective, an occasional reframe, and small ways to reclaim our capacity.

Because the weather outside tells us what we’re walking into.

The weather inside tells us what we’re walking in with.

The world has its conditions. So do you.

Read the world. Read yourself. Dress accordingly.

Apparently even the people building the future have discovered brakes.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei is calling for frontier AI development to slow enough for safety systems to catch up.

Sam Altman agreed.

Not stop AI. Pace it.

Because when capability moves faster than the system responsible for containing it can adapt, speed stops looking like performance and starts looking a lot like instability.

And that may be the more human part of the story.

We do this with everything.

Growth. Work. Training. Ambition.

We assume faster means better — right up until the system supporting the speed can’t keep up.

Apparently even the future needs recovery time.

Dress accordingly.

We want technology close. Just not that close.

This week Apple gave your wrist a Readiness score and a Health Age.

A day later, California signed new rules restricting addictive social features for kids under 16 and strengthening protections around companion chatbots.

That feels less like two separate technology stories and more like one very human one:

We want machines to understand us better.

We’re just beginning to figure out where understanding becomes intimacy — and where intimacy requires a boundary.

Today’s Pulse of the Nation.

Dress accordingly.

Apparently capacity has entered the group chat.

Apple just introduced Readiness, Health Age and a Longevity section that starts asking a much more interesting question than how many steps you took:

What does your body actually have the capacity to do today?

That shift matters.

Today’s Weather Report: Sun Valley weather, Apple Health, and why measuring more isn’t necessarily the same thing as understanding more.

Dress accordingly.

If you’re enjoying these, follow along — and keep the real-time feedback coming. Louder, slower, shorter, weirder… I’m listening.

We’ll do almost anything to age better. Except go to bed.

Nearly one in three American adults is sleeping less than seven hours a night.

Now a randomized insomnia trial has found something more interesting than better sleep: participants receiving cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia — CBT-I — also showed a slower pace of biological aging on one epigenetic measure.

No — that does not mean sleep therapy “reversed aging.” And treating insomnia takes more than telling someone to go to bed.

It does make the ordinary look considerably less ordinary.

Apparently going to bed is still cutting-edge medicine.

If you’re enjoying the Weather Report, follow along — and keep the real-time feedback coming. Louder, slower, clearer, stranger. We’re building this thing in public.

Dress accordingly.

We’re getting very good at measuring things we still don’t entirely understand.

Yesterday, the question was whether medicine could see something before it became obvious. Today, we have the next problem: what exactly are we seeing?

Researchers applied six different proteomic aging clocks to blood samples from patients in a clinical trial of an AI-designed experimental drug. The clocks moved toward younger predicted biological ages.

Which is fascinating.

It is also not the same thing as proving we reversed human aging.

And that distinction is becoming increasingly important. Our ability to measure the body—biological age, molecular resistance, risk, decline—is advancing faster than our ability to know exactly what every new number means for the person attached to it.

More visibility isn’t automatically more understanding.

The instruments are getting sharper. Interpretation is still a human job.

Seeing earlier is becoming possible. But does seeing earlier always mean we know what to do next?

This week’s forecast is less about what we can measure than what happens once we can.

Medicine is learning to detect cancer resistance before it appears on a scan. Researchers are documenting what happens when people lose—or materially change—the AI companions they’ve formed attachments to. And across both stories is the same increasingly relevant question:

The instruments are getting better. The signals are arriving sooner. Wisdom is still deciding what deserves intervention.

Meanwhile, in Sun Valley: September is apparently offering everything from showers and overnight lows in the 30s to nearly 80 degrees by Thursday.

Layers are doing some serious work this week.

Dress accordingly.

Apparently “normal” in Sun Valley is a 75-degree margin of error.

Which feels about right.

For our first-ever Pulse of the Nation, we started where people have always started when they don’t quite know what to say: the weather.

On September 4, Sun Valley has been 90 degrees. It has also been 15.

Same place. Same date. Seventy-five degrees of disagreement about what “normal” is supposed to feel like.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the atmosphere: healthspan is becoming institutional infrastructure, readiness is becoming medical territory, and “not sick” increasingly seems to be an insufficient answer to the question how are you?

Conditions change. We adapt. Then we get strangely attached to whatever we adapted to.

Also: ski season is coming.

Your quads have been served notice.

Dress accordingly.
