Our wood-fired brunch on Sunday was made even more special by the guests around the table (so many familiar and friendly faces—including Mona’s darling family!), the impossibly blue sky and gloriously sunny day, the beauty and lushness of @awilderlake, the refreshing @westwardwhiskey cocktail created by @emilymistell, and our welcoming and hardworking team. We started with cereal milk sips infused with toasted grains and barley malt, little binchotan breakfast skewers with bacon, @eola_crest_cattle quail eggs, toast and @oregonmapleproject syrup, and crispy smashed potatoes with crema, house smoked salmon, chives and everything bagel spice. At the table, guests enjoyed wood fired scones, a salad of wild greens with pickled rhubarb vinaigrette, @three_sisters_nixtamal hominy grits topped with a riot of spring vegetables and egg mimosa, a shakshuka-ish dish of chickpeas and braised greens with farm eggs, harissa and feta, and a sweet finish of almond griddle cakes, honey caramelized rhubarb, strained yoghurt, bee pollen and flowers. Phew! It was a lot of food and our guests did us proud by finishing most of it! Thank you to everyone who made our first wood fired brunch one for the books 🙏🏼🍳💕

Our Brick Hall Friends & Family preview was a blast yesterday! From line up to final farewells, we loved every minute of it. Chef @nmaraziti and @cheflumberjack created vibrant dishes brimming with fresh seasonal produce, we filled the house with friendly faces and @____breeeannaaa and the whole floor team warmly welcomed the community into our bright and airy communal dining room. Thank you to everyone who came out to support and share in the excitement of all that is to come! We’ll be opening our doors soon—follow along for announcements!

Love and quiches to my beautiful Mama Lee @msnoralee and the other wonderful mothers in my life @mondierj @annalesouk @rwfoster52 🤍 This one is for you. Asparagus and green garlic quiche in a potato crust, mostly because I’m lazy but also the potato is quite delicate and lovely. >>Thinly slice a good sized Yukon Gold potato, toss with olive oil, salt, pepper and some grated parm. Layer into pie dish, overlapping slightly, and bake until softened and beginning to brown a little at the edges. Sauté some green garlic and thinly sliced asparagus in butter, season, then sprinkle over the potato crust along with some grated or crumbled cheese (I used a local gruyere-like one). Pour in your custard. I highly recommend @miette1965’s recipe which can be found on the GoFundMe link on her page—and please consider donating to her while you’re there! Kristen’s quiche is a delicate, towering thing of beauty, but I only had a shallow dish, so I halved her recipe. Bake at 325 until barely set and still a bit jiggly in the center. Sprinkle with chives blossoms if you’ve got them and enjoy! 🌸 #loveandquiches #mothersday #chezmona

Hearty Lentil Barley, enjoyed with homemade focaccia

This recipe comes from @mondierj , who gifted us a quart of her hearty and satisfying soup. One might argue that there is no greater gift than that of homemade soup that’s been lovingly prepared for you 💕 Sautee a small diced onion, two chopped carrots and two stalks of chopped celery in butter or olive oil in a large pot until softened. Season vegetables, then add 2 cups lentils, 1 cup pearled barley, 1 peeled and chopped potato, and 2.5 quarts of water or broth of choice. Simmer until lentils are nearly tender, about 40-50 minutes, then add a 14 oz can of diced tomatoes and ribbons cut from 3-4 destemmed leaves of kale or collard greens. Simmer until everything is tender and flavorful, then season with salt and freshly ground pepper to taste. Serve with a nice slick of good olive oil and some crusty bread for dipping (lucky me, @pdxoystersocial made us @bonappetitmag’s genius no-knead focaccia). Enjoy! #soupislove #chezmona
