A damn word!!!
✨
I am jumping into the chat about a situation with an Atlanta actress and about what I feel is a really disgusting attack because somebody’s ego didn’t get stroked.

Actors, be careful about who you share your gifts with!

LETS MAKE THIS GO VIRAL!!!

We spend alot of time in script analysis because it’s so fundamental to an actor’s work. How you understand or misunderstand the scene absolutely impacts the choices you make in your auditions.
✨

On this particular night, the actors were paired up and worked on different scenes, and then we talked about how additional information given or understood impacted how they connected as they continued to work.

I love this kind of dialogue because it’s important to hear how actors think and what they come to understand about the work, and how that understanding gets translated on camera.

You should be here.

Freeze Tag!
✨

This is an improv game that focuses on physicality. Two actors create a scene and then the Acting coach yells “freeze!” The actors, must freeze in whatever physical position they are in and hold it. One actor leaves a new actor comes in and then establishes that physicality into some kind of new activity that starts a new scene.

This is so much fun, and challenges actors to flex their creative muscle!

CGAI is not just an acting class. My mentor of 30 years, Brother Bill Duke, through SETH GODIN’s small book, TRIBES, emphasizes creating your own tribe. Build it horizontally and not vertically. Duke taught us that it’s ok to pursue the bizness through normal means. Submit. Audition. Work. Then repeat. That’s the nature of the beast. But spend time creating strategic alliances with your peers: creatives who share your vision and your energy’s are harmonious

Do we study at CGAI? Sure. Do you do scenes and explore into the depths of our humanity to better understand how to discover our personal truth in the work? ABSOLUTELY.

But the secret sauce of our class is relationship. Building and creating personal and professional tribe. It’s starts as a pursuit of personal congruity. Then it seamlessly blends into the work. Personal projects. Sharing information about projects we all are involved in…..then, for me as a coach, I will act in, WHEN ASKED, in any project ANY OF THESE creatives write, produce or direct.

These are a few images that show the flow of the incredible artists.

Congratulations IN ADVANCE for all the amazing work you will do in the future. Your energy and drive is palpable and I’m blessed to play whatever small part I’ve been blessed to play.

The CGAI Vibe🔥🎭

Exactly ONE YEAR AGO today, we rolled cameras on Day 1 of principal photography for NO! 🎬🍿

It started with a vision, an incredible crew, firm belief, and an unforgettable energy. One year later, we are incredibly honored to be an Honorable Mention recipient at the California Women’s Film Festival and heading to Atlanta as an Official Selection for the @bronzelens BronzeLens Film Festival this month!

Huge thank you to the phenomenal cast and crew who poured their hearts into this project. Atlanta, we’ll see you on August 23rd! ✈️🍑

Here’s a look at our time behind the scenes on set. We hope you’ll all enjoy!

About last night:
We had a pre-workshop check-in with Russell Hornsby @russoulhornsby and it was fantastic!
🙌🏾

Per usual, he was dropping gems and inspiring us with his passionate knowledge of the work and the craft in how we discover and play!!

This workshop will be WORK - but we are working hard and preparing to next-level our skills in character development and storytelling!

Hey Denzel @denzelwashington.official @denzeltheartist and Viola Davis @violadavis we will be READY for the next wave of August Wilson plays and films. We absolutely understand that one cannot learn everything in a weekend, but we will leave will sharpened tools and enhanced confidence in our ability to bring his characters to life in an authentic way that honors Wilson’s work!
✨

Yes, there are still observer spots available. And yes, we still have a waitlist for workshop participants.
