Grateful for Monica and Jode's support and for all we've accomplished together in Christie Pits. Their love for this park is unmistakable, and it's people like them who remind us why our parks matter so much to our communities.

Once upon a time in the last couple of weeks . . . @gallery.1065 hosted a magical community event, art event, gallery show, and poetic rewilding experience.

Thank you @mongupta

Many people came together to make this magic happen @joderoberts @pamlostracco @torontoinkcompany among dozens of other community artists.

It was called Rewilding, and it was so beautiful . . . Imagine making paints from all the beautiful natural colors of late summer and transforming a whole gallery into a rewilded space.

They not only imagined it but they did it! ✨🙏🏼🩵🌈

Towards the end, almost the last night, I attended a poetry reading at the gallery surrounded by these beautiful paintings (my photos do not do them Justice--every wall of the gallery was alive with color and rewilding.)

It was a quietly packed house on Friday night: poetry lovers. There was a young man with a broken heart who had never read poetry in public before, and other 'new' poets too. 🙏🏼🦋🩵🙏🏼✨📘🙏🏼

All his buddies came out to support him. A few of them cried with him. It was the sweetest most hopeful thing I have seen in a long time--surrounded by beautiful art, watched over by this owl, this moon. 🌝

Ah, gratitude! What a gift. Thank you!

Proudly St. Lucian 🇱🇨, but I love exploring and immersing myself in the beauty of other Caribbean islands and learning the traditions that make each one unique.

A huge thank you to the Grenadian community in Toronto for welcoming me into your Jab J'ouvert experience. From the prep, the chants, the music, the food, the jokes, and all the behind-the-scenes moments.

I came wanting to play a Jab and left with an even deeper appreciation for Grenadian culture. ❤️🇬🇩

One Caribbean. Many cultures. Endless respect.

I do not own the rights to parts of this clips thanks @mongupta for a wonderful capture.

Past. Present. Future.
Are they really separate?
Or just one continuous loop?
How do you experience time?

About a month ago, I had the opportunity to be part of the group exhibition “On Time”, curated by Melissa @fishmelissa and Amy @here_and__here Different life stages. Different backgrounds. Different mediums. Yet we were all exploring one shared idea: TIME.
———
When we’re young, time feels endless.
Untouchable. Infinite.

Then life happens.
We move, build, love, struggle, time becomes fast, full, almost overwhelming.

And eventually, we begin to feel something else.
An awareness that time…might not be endless after all.

But here’s the question, is time really limited?
Or does it continue through what we inherit, what we hold, and what we leave behind?

My piece is titled:
“ Meguru / Forget Me Not ”

“ Meguru(廻る) ” means to turn, to cycle, to come back around in Japanese. Time as something that never truly ends.

“ Forget Me Not ” a wild flower I love the most and a quiet tribute to my mother, whom I lost last year.

The work is built in three layers:

Past: Dried branches
The past is gone. You can’t change it.
But it holds a kind of beauty and becomes your foundation.

Present: Blooming flowers
The present is where you stand.
Balancing yourself within time.

Future: Buds that opened slowly during the exhibition.
The future. uncertain, uncontrollable, yet undeniably alive.

Simple. Visible. Real as Living art form for this exhibition. So that each person can pause and ask themselves,
“ What does time mean to me? ”
“ How are you seeing time, right now? ”

If this work can offer even a small moment for you to reflect on what time means in your life and what value most right now, that makes me happy:)
———
My deepest gratitude to Amy @here_and__here & Melissa @fishmelissa for inviting me and giving me the opportunity to express this concept.

To all the artists in this group show, my respect and admiration. It was truly an honour to work alongside you.

And thank you Monica @mongupta at Gallery 1065 @gallery.1065 for providing such a beautiful venue for Toronto artists.

May this full moon on May 1st bring you light and clarity.

Love,❤️
Reiko
