Team Love ready for Patrick Mc Dowell SS27

I met Patrick in Paris last year after hearing accolades from multiple reliable sources. He was at a showroom blocks from my hotel (fate!). From that meeting this glorious suit was born, in my favorite color and adorned with thimble’s inspired by Patrick’s grandmother.

Someone was a huge hit with street photographers and illustrators.

Across the aisle besties.

This ICON flew to London for a 36 hour stay to fulfill my dream of attending this show together.

Patrick brought me together with the sister I didn’t know I had.

Not me thinking I was the inspo for the opening pieces. 💚

Reading Corner | The Royal Request

Today’s book will definitely leave you hungry for something sweet! “The Royal Request” written by Monika Singh Gangotra, illustrated by Mirna Imamovic, and published by Owlet Press is a story about Ari and his grandad who are asked to deliver a magnificent cake from their family bakery to the queen’s palace for her beloved peacock’s birthday.

A simple journey quickly becomes an adventure: the cake is heavy, their cart breaks, hundreds of goats block their path, and people along the way keep offering different opinions about what they should do. Will they get to the palace on time?

This is a sweet and fantastical book all about perseverance and we love the idea of family recipes being passed down through generations. There’s even a cardamom-spiced mango jam cake recipe at the end! 🥭

🌱 If you could plant something today for future generations to enjoy, what would it be?

This week’s Babipur Book of the Week is The Gifts That Grow, written by Monika Singh Gangotra and illustrated by Michaela Dias-Hayes, and there’s 20% off all week 📚

Based on a true story from Monika’s own family, it tells the story of Amrita and the jamun tree planted by her Nani when she was born. It’s a lovely story about the connections between generations, the gifts and memories our families leave with us, and caring for the natural world for those who come after us, even when we may never see the benefits ourselves.

Michaela Dias-Hayes’ illustrations are absolutely beautiful. Rich purples, greens, and golds fill the pages, with so many little details to look at. The memories seem to drift through the pictures as the story moves between Amrita’s family past and present.

Welcome August. 🌻
This library find is a great one exploring how trying to please everyone can get a little overwhelming. Sometimes it’s a case of accepting that though many will have opinions, you know best!
The book features a great baker who is renowned for his famous mango cake. The Queen has also requested this delicious cake for a significant party, oh the excitement and honour.
Whilst delivering the cake Grandad and his grandson Ari are confronted by many, not only in awe of the cake but also stating how they should be travelling. It all gets a bit too much and it’s clear that there really is no pleasing everyone.
Thankfully the cake does arrive safely with a little unexpected plot twist.
On arrival readers are not only invited to a royal party, the Queen being delighted with the cake, it is also made clear that even something like the flavour of cake cannot please everyone.
The cheery artwork using a Summery palette of colours are a great selection for this story. The representation of a Sikh baker and family is also great to see.
Do see if you’re local library have it too. You may even want to try baking your own cake as there is a recipe in the back matter. The book is written by @monikasinghg, by @art.mirna and published by @owletpress.
