At Bryn Pader (“hill of prayer”) in Wales, a stone farmhouse formed from granite boulders close to a medieval pilgrim route, the master craftsman and cabin maker @rollodunfordwood has found a place where he can refashion the creative idyll of his own childhood. Filled with handmade and inherited pieces (and without central heating), he says: “I can enjoy birdsong with a cup of coffee, and be there for my kids. Togetherness with the people we love is the most important thing in life. And this house nurtures that.” It’s here that he’s created his first beautifully hewn collection of objects for the home, including a wooden box, candlesticks and a bowl, released this month. Four years in the making, the project takes subtle cues from its neighbour, @britishmuseum, with thousands of antique pieces sourced globally through auctions, dealers, and extensive travel. The interiors balance a Georgian architectural sensibility with a richly layered mix of global antiques and 20th-century British art. Photos from @thezetterhotels in Bloomsbury, with VERY GOOD interiors by @_thurstan. I stayed for a few nights this week and I’ll stay again for sure. The rooms are small (note that only suites have TVs) and it’s not a luxury hotel, but it’s a mighty handsome place to crash right next to the British Museum. The vast collection of vintage textiles, antiques and decorative objects really set this place apart from other mid-range London hotels with their dull identical bedrooms. In fact, its interiors are unlike any other hotel in the city. Also, it’s walkable from King’s Cross in about 20 mins (past Fortitude Bakery and diagonally across leafy Russell Square) and it has a tiny garden for sunny afternoons. At the time of writing this, it’s still brand new and there are some spaces (including the garden) being finished off, plus the team and processes obviously feel new, so I reckon give them a month or so, when they’ve had more time to settle in. I’ll def book another stay for autumn to make the most of the open fires in the guest lounge, and cosy, rainy mornings with the woodburner and glass roof in the conservatory. Until 30th April, they have a link on their website for 50% off room rates until the end of the year, which brings most nights in at £190-220 for the tiny rooms, and for central London, you can’t sniff at that price!

Antique textiles snd objects sourced from Japan, Istanbul and across Africa, sit alongside post-war British artworks by the likes of Sandra Blow and Roger Hilton… It feels like the your extremely well-travelled mate’s supremely stylish home👌 Plus the cocktails, particularly the Air Mail, is insanely delicious and come highly approved...by me! 🍸

One misty dawn morning, when the dew was speckling the grass and the fields stretched out to the horizon, on a morning run, I came across a snail harvester 🐌. An elderly woman carrying one of these metal baskets and carefully gathering plump snails and placing them into her basket. (We lived in the French Charente in the early 00s). To see such a fabulous collection inside the curious and splendid emporium of @max_rollitt was glorious - alongside his carefully curated selection of antiques, rugs, lights and expertly handmade furniture and lighting. ✨

In life you don’t always want to see how the sausage gets made, but when it comes to @max_rollitt - you really really do. Famed for his interiors, antiques and now bespoke collections, Max and his team very kindly walked us through his amazing workshop near Winchester, where now, one lucky Max Rollitt client will receive an extra special chair with a Max Hurd stitch! Watching how the team create their designs was truly inspiring, and reminded me that even “new” bits of furniture always have a story to tell.

What a joy to visit @belmondlemanoir to meet artist in residence, @jesswheeler.design and see her beautiful new sculptures in the Japanese tea garden - bronze leaves, carved into the rocks. It was particularly magical to see the artwork against a backdrop of peak autumn splendour - the bronze leaves blending in with the real ones. Le Manoir is a very special place. The lavender walk (which I could see from my bedroom window) is lit with thousands of lights and when you arrive, it is like walking into a fairytale. Other highlights included the gin (flavoured with Vietnamese coriander from the garden amongst other things), the tour around the kitchens (they are huge - and incredibly calm!), all the food, obviously, but particularly the little treats - the canapés, petit fours, tiny biscuits and cakes. Oh, and the pistachio and chocolate pastry I just about managed to find room for at breakfast. What a treat - thank you @monique_borsi
