How a local fundraiser saved a beloved venue from closing. When Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland's) @neckofthewoodsnz announced it was facing closure, @nympho.world quickly brought the community together through a fundraiser that ultimately raised $150,000 NZ—enough to keep the venue open. Alongside this, NYMPHO pulled together a compilation album in less than 24 hours, featuring contributions from local and international artists including @ninajirachi, @ladyshaka, @umru and the majority of the NYMPHO team, raising an additional $2,000. Momentum continued to build throughout the week with Aotearoa band @thebeths raising a further $10,000 through merch sales and donations at a show in Philadelphia during their US tour. Support quickly spread beyond Tāmaki, with communities across Australia getting behind the fundraiser. @aaatarangi from NYMPHO also saw support from his own Naarm (Melbourne) community, showing how the impact of losing an independent venue extends far beyond one city. Neck of the Woods has helped launch countless artists and become a vital third space for music and community. As grassroots venues continue to face these challenges around the world, this story is a reminder of what's possible when communities come together. You can read about the story via the link in bio.

@neckofthewoodsnz is ready for a brighter future. After the Auckland venue announced its shock closure, New Zealand's music community came together to raise over $150k to save it from immediate closure. Rolling Stone deputy editor @conornoconnor spoke with Aotearoa musicians to find out what makes Neck of the Woods so special. The fundraiser was an incredible example of community action, but there's still lots of hard work to be done. We also heard from the likes of Green Party co-leader @chloe.swarbrick, the team at @nympho.world, who started the fundraiser, and music journalist @martynpepperell about where the NZ music industry goes from here and what needs to change.
