Massive love to the incredible live lineup who pushed every sonic boundary - from the cosmic rhythm of @omnisight_jp and raw noise of @tupperware.noise, to @buddha_beat ‘s folk electronica, immersive ambient textures from @__c.m.oliver__ & @monosylabik , 80s post-punk from @mrizalmustbedestroyed , surprise unplugged from @_deklarasi_ , and heavy hardware techno from @danial.thibroni . Until the next shift in currents! 🔊⚡️

This Saturday at the Mission to Seafarers 🩵💙🔷Blue Mud🔷🔵🔹 will be supporting my Oxen-born sister and enchanting artist 🪷🪷🪷 @babybloodlotus 🪷🪷🪷 for their album launch, alongside @nuuuuuuuuuuu__ Tickets linked in my 🔗🌳.
[images left to write - 1. gig poster, 2 & 3. blue mud at east mint, 4. before my sister cut my fringe, 5. after my sister cut my fringe... shared in honour of my son who discovered this week that cutting one's own hair at 4yo is not always a great idea.]

~🔹Blue Mud🔹~
Blue Mud is a trio of Naarm-based musicians Sui Zhen, @monosylabik (aka T. Xuân Nguyen / Tino) & @__c.m.oliver__ (badskin). The group formed with the arrival of the Lunar New Year of the Horse, around a common practice of improvised, textured sets with vocal and melodic moments.
Blue Mud is what a three-year-old described as sand under blue water. The trio tap into those inner instincts in their sets, shedding their conditioned adult selves, so musical instinct can flow without pressure for resolve. Later they would discover the geologic and oceanographic life of the term – intertidal zones, microbiomes deep in the seafloor – and find their creative prompts already living there, asking with childlike curiosity how we might create in a time of climate collapse. This is where they play.

an echo from the teahouse void
@_cat_nguyen_ & @monosylabik honouring vietnamese culture through diasporic sorrow & healing last week.

this week, reverie• returns with noom & braek-
an experimental idm duo born from the collision of classical music and voltage-controlled chaos — the physicality and resonance of wood and strings fragmented & reorganised by glitch sound design and the unpredictability of modular synthesis.

Taking a moment to introduce you to the wonderful souls behind our food programme, @we.eatin.good.bitch, for Crossings #3 at @highnote_ this Sunday, Sep 13

Matisse Laida (@your.never.girlfriend) is a Queer, Mauritian/Venezuelan artist and community arts worker, working across film, food, performance, and public and community programs. Their work explores ideas of care, culture, and collaboration, all through a queer and diasporic lens. They’re the founder of We Eatin’ Good, a QPOC community project that uses food as a way to gather, share stories, and connect with identity.
Through pop-ups, workshops, film and exhibitions, they explore how cultural food practices can be acts of resistance, memory, and joy.

Taking a moment to introduce you to the wonderful souls behind our food programme, @we.eatin.good.bitch, for Crossings #3 at @highnote_ this Sunday, Sep 13

Prem is a confused brown man. Take some Malaysian Tamil spices, sprinkle some French snootiness and stir in some Dutch height, and ya get a Prem. Having vowed to leave cheffing to his past life, he has clearly succeeded: regularly getting roped into cutting piles of onions for Matisse. Prem is also somehow involved in various academic frivolities - teaching undergrads, looking at our evolving relationship with the night sky, Indigenous pedagogy in tertiary curriculum writing, and generally pretending he knows what he’s doing.

🍄 Returning for the 5th edition on Thursday the 17th of September. Music For Mushrooms is a dedication to spaces of transcendence in nature, in particular to the network of the forest - Mycelium. With this project, artist Ophelia Bakowski (DJ Luv You), alongside special guest T. Xuân Nguyen, will explore through a selection of compositions, field recordings, and live instrumentation, what it might be like to be a mushroom. Sounds collected and arranged for this work have been gathered in the process of foraging, consuming, exuding, and becoming. Tender has been a space to nourish and develop these ideas and now, as seasons pass and Spring begins, it’s time to return and imprint our spores again.

Find a taste of what to expect through this live recording from our first edition below !

Ophelia and Tender invite you to this deep listening experience, to sink into the earth and become a mushroom for a brief 180 minutes; To partake in fungal feelings and indulge in a space of gentle warmth and playful serenity for both mushroom and mushroomee <3

6-9pm Thursday 17 of September
Tickets $30 Full Price / $20 Concession

Tender Deep Listening Info:
You can enter or exit the listening room at any time throughout the duration. Please remove shoes on arrival and place them in the pigeon holes provided. Introducing our live & DJ program for Crossings #3 at @highnote_____ next Sunday, Sep 13 💛

@yousefalreemawi is a Palestinian-Australian musician, scholar, linguist, internationally-renowned proofreader of Arabic content and storyteller. He is the founder and director of the Averroes Centre for Arab Culture, and the founder of ASPIRE, an NGO that contributed to the settlement of more than 250 stateless Palestinian refugees from Iraq and Syria in Australia since 2007. He is also the creator of the Palestine Remembered program on Radio 3CR, the founder/ leader of Tarab Ensemble — Australia’s leading group devoted to the classical Arabic instrumental tradition — and the presenter of the Understanding Palestine Series of public lectures on the history of Palestine.

@luqman.music works between dark techno, dub-leaning club music and bass-heavy percussion. His sets are built on paced transitions, extended builds and the kind of structural restraint that comes from trusting a room to settle in rather than steering it. The Naarm-based DJ, producer and broadcaster has spent the past several years building a presence across Melbourne’s underground and the regional Victorian circuit, with particular depth in Castlemaine.

Through a playful and curious approach, they create space for vulnerability, memory, and presence.

@__c.m.oliver__ is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist born from Thul Garrie Waja and Gurambilbara country. Their cultural upbringing encompasses a decade of life living on Penang Island in Malaysia - where their music education began in the small but influential underground DIY scene of the early 2000s.
