some of my favorite shots from the sub t the other night. what a treat to see the energy brought out in the room by some wonderful friends and folks.
.
.
everything was shot on an a7cr. after being encouraged by my esteemed coworker, buddy, i decided to shoot it all on the tamron 17-50 f4 i traded for last month. i have been really enjoying the availability of the wider focal lengths and using my feet to get closer than 50mm when documenting inside a scene. grateful for esteemed coworker lomenzo for introducing me to this approach.

i was worried about the f4 stop not being enough, so i brought my one little on camera flash, a godox it30 pro. its powerful for its size and i enjoyed it; i wish i used flash more.

the only two issues i was having was that on ttl; the intensity of the flash kept dramatically changing, and for some reason i was too in my head for most of the night to change to manual. the other problem was that the little godox only could be powered down to 1/16th power; which was still too powerful to match with the practical and stage lights. so i was overpowering the scene when i couldn’t bounce it off a wall or ceiling.

I found my way into “a/the” local scene in my very late teens/early 20’s. In my first band, that actually played shows.

Shortly after finding this community, i found a band called @monsters_chi . Who always felt larger than life and better than any other local band. While the bands i was playing in, were vastly diffent genres and styles, i had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Monsters many times.

They called it quits for well over 10+ years and recently got back to making music. Tonight they celebrate their new EP release which absolutely crushes! With support from the one and only @jerome_il who are also back from a long sleep and have been destroying shit. And the homies in @lovelosthc_ - @chaosphere1 & @premeditated_il

Tons of my friends are ripping this stage tonight & all of them rule & deserve your ears!

Tonight is one for the books and if you’re into heavy music, swing out to @subtchicago

@kickstandproductions always taking care of the community and hosting these killer shows!

See ya there!
