Hammond, IN – July 18, 2025 — The Professional Hoops Association (PHA) officially tipped off its inaugural season with opening day festivities in Hammond, Indiana. The league is the brainchild of Lewis Shine, who first envisioned the organization in 2022 as a platform to provide aspiring athletes with a new route to achieving their professional basketball dreams.

Shine, a Chicago native, chose Northwest Indiana as the league’s home base due to its proximity to his hometown and the region’s rich basketball culture. “It just felt right,” Shine said. “Northwest Indiana has some ballers.”

While the 2025 season serves as the PHA’s launch, the league is preparing for a full competitive season in 2026. With its mission rooted in opportunity and community, the Professional Hoops Association aims to become a pivotal stepping stone for talented players seeking exposure and advancement in their basketball careers.
