The @hoopstudy Basketball Trainers Workshop was one of the most meaningful weekends of my entire career.

I was hella nervous to do this type of event.

Who would show up? How could we overdeliver on value? How could we make sure every single person walked away with something they could actually apply?

Looking back, those same insecurities ended up being a huge part of why I loved this weekend so much.

I got to be vulnerable. Share my truths. Give back to trainers coming up in this game.

But most importantly, I got to learn from everyone in that room.

Their struggles. Their experiences. The ins and outs of what this business really looks like at every stage.

From the trainers just getting started to the ones who have been grinding for years, making a living in this game, but still trying to figure out how to become fully independent and build something of their own.

Getting to hear those perspectives, understand their challenges, and share in those conversations meant everything to me.

No fluff. No bullshit.

17+ years in this game. Still learning. Still teaching. Still growing.

To everyone who pulled up, invested in themselves, and trusted us with their time… THANK YOU.

It’s hard to put into words what this weekend meant to me. But I know one thing.

It was special.

And we’re just getting started with this trainer game… because 🤫

One of two women in a room of about 30 men—and the only mental performance coach.

I’m really glad I put myself in that room.

I went to the HoopStudy Trainers & Coaches Conference to deepen my understanding of what athletes are being taught—and asked to do—at a higher level.

As a former player and basketball coach, I love the nuances of this game. As a mental performance coach, I’m listening for what helps athletes stay connected enough to learn, apply, and access their skills when things get hard.

And I kept hearing it:

Listen closely. Feel the movement. Pay attention to the details. Bring intention to every rep. Communicate with respect. Honor the moment in front of you.

All mental skills and capacities that mindfulness helps athletes train.

I left thinking: What if athletes trained to be the best shooters AND the best listeners on their team? To bring the same intention to their composure that they bring to their defense?

Can your coach trust you to stay present, trust yourself, and compete when the team needs you—even when you’re tired, frustrated, or doubting yourself?

That’s where my work lives.

Training athletes to stay present, poised, and connected to themselves as they learn, compete, and grow at their highest level—so they can access what they’ve trained and experience those moments when their hard work pays off.

And I practiced that work myself this weekend.

I stepped outside my comfort zone and into uncertainty. I allowed myself to show up as exactly who I know I am. To be present, engage, and connect with as many people as I could.

From the coaches sharing their knowledge to the HoopStudy staff working behind the scenes, the care and authenticity I experienced were unmatched.

I came to learn. I left with new connections, so much to bring back to my athletes, and a full heart.

Train Different.

St. Joseph Brooklyn MBB HC Sebastien Etheart will be working with Eurobasket on putting together a team of seniors from the Skyline and NJAC conferences to go to Madrid Spain in June 2027! We were able to organize this trip last year to Portugal and now will have 4 games against teams through Central and Southern Spain. We are very excited about having both St. Joseph Brooklyn coaches working on our trips in this region!!
