📢 Our Facebook Group 'Neurodivergent MSK Clinicians' has now had its name changed to:

'𝗡𝗲𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲'

The majority of members voted in favour of the change, and I want to thank everyone who took part — every vote and every perspective mattered.

🤔 Why the change?

Because our members come from across the health and care landscape — not just MSK. We have neurodivergent nurses, AHPs, mental health professionals, social care practitioners, educators, support workers, therapists, and many others whose work centres on supporting people.

The updated name makes sure everyone feels equally included and represented. Our goals remain unchanged:

🔹 to provide a supportive, neuroaffirming space for practitioners who identify as neurodivergent (diagnosed, self‑identified, exploring, or awaiting assessment)
🔹 to share experiences, strengths, challenges, and insights
🔹 to connect with others who understand neurodivergent ways of thinking, working, and communicating
🔹 to uphold confidentiality, respect, and kindness as core community values

If you’re a neurodivergent practitioner working in any area of health, care, support, or education, you’re warmly invited to join us. 🙂

In Ep.288 of the STA Clinician Podcast @uk_sta , my very special guests Sarah Meharg @moodlifterpt and Rosi Sexton @oltonhealthandperformance discuss the launch of Neuroflect UK @neuroflectuk and the recent publication of their 'Reflective CPD Journal'.

In a fantastic hour of thought & reflection, Sarah & Rosi explain why neurodivergent‑affirmative practice matters, share practical planning and reflection tools for clinicians, and outline upcoming training and resources to improve accessibility across healthcare and workplaces.

A really important episode for MSK and other health professionals — both neurotypical and neurodivergent — who want simple, actionable ways to reduce barriers, better support patients, and embed reflective learning into everyday practice.

One thing I didn’t anticipate when creating the Reflective CPD Journal was how hard it would be to ask for testimonials.

Not because I wasn’t proud of the journal. Because asking people I respect to read my work meant risking hearing that it wasn’t good enough.

Many neurodivergent people grow up receiving a disproportionate amount of corrective feedback.

“Pay attention.”

“Sit still.”

“Stop fidgeting.”

“Try harder.”

“You’re too sensitive.”

“You’re overreacting.”

For many of us, the message isn’t simply that we’ve made a mistake. It’s that our natural ways of communicating, regulating, learning, or responding to the world are somehow wrong.

Over time, that can make it harder to trust our own experiences and more likely that we seek validation from others before trusting ourselves.

As adults, visibility can feel risky.

It can also affect healthcare. If you’ve spent years being told your experiences are wrong, exaggerated, or unimportant, it’s perhaps not surprising that many neurodivergent people face barriers to accessing healthcare or delay seeking support.

But if this journal helps even one healthcare professional reflect differently or make one adjustment that improves someone’s experience of care, then asking felt worth it.

So I asked.

The easiest person to ask was Dr Ruth Moyse, who already knew my work.

The hardest asks were people I deeply admired but didn’t know personally.

And the response was far kinder than the story I had been telling myself.

Thank you to Kelly Mahler, Dr Ruth Moyse, and Matt Phillips for your generosity, encouragement, and support.

The journal was never about creating a product. It is about helping improve healthcare experiences and outcomes for neurodivergent people

Today we’re preparing to interview students for a Neuroflect placement, and it feels like a good moment to share what’s happening behind the scenes.

We’re working in partnership with University of Birmingham, offering placements to second year students on an entrepreneurial humanities module.

This is more than being about placements.
As a new social enterprise, these placements are mutually beneficial. We benefit from a student’s time, critical analysis, and writing skills, while also having the opportunity to explore how to make our recruitment processes more accessible and to make progress on our projects.
At the same time, we’re building links with a university.

In preparation for today, Sarah said how much she enjoyed facilitating interviews.
Rosi responded:
“Of course you love being on an interview panel, it’s structured interaction.”

Her comment explained something that often comes up in neurodivergent experience.
Enjoying something, or finding it easier, because of how it’s structured, paced, or socially organised, even if you haven’t consciously connected the dots, and it only becomes clear when someone else names it.

Have you ever realised why you enjoy something, or why you’re good at it, because someone pointed it out?

On Friday we presented at the North East Autism Society Acceptance Matters conference, talking about reasonable adjustments.

We’re hoping that, as part of our work this year, we can get funding to deliver self advocacy workshops, and what happened on Friday really reinforced our motivation to make this happen.

The chat and comments were filled with people whose needs have been overlooked, dismissed, denied, and in some cases mocked. At the end, Kerry Murphy said, “this shows that we are still a long way from equity.” Those words hurt, because she’s right. And equity isn’t just about access, it’s about belonging.

At the end of the day, we also had the privilege of Tristan (Stak Life) sharing his vulnerability about the suffering and loss he has experienced. That loss came from a lack of belonging and being othered.

One of the main determinants of mental health is connection.

Adjustments can easily become about process, but we are determined to bring it back to human belonging.

Has anyone seen this woman?

5’6, last seen wearing a rather fetching black hoodie and matching colour hair.

Last seen at 1am, quietly talking to herself about her new career as a fashion designer.

She does not need another job… but you can help with our fundraising and justify her latest hobby by shopping our clothing.

All profits go to Neuroflect CIC to help fund our work in accessibility for neurodivergent people

Link to the Teemill shop is in the link in our bio.
