POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

10 before the end.

This year has been so long but also super rushed, that it is a little hard to realise we are in the middle of leaf crunch and cinnamon spiced lattes! While the allotted list of authors we had decided to read this year is out of the window (because honestly, so many new debut authors and wonderful releases this year!), we have decided to make a list of 10 books we will prioritise this year. Thank you @melreadsx for the tag and the reminder to make this list!

Of these, two will be buddy reads inspired by the adaptations for this year, and then four books for both of us including ARCs which always have a very real deadline. Crossing our fingers tightly that we will stick to this!

What about you? What book are you hoping to read before we close off this year?

List of books:

Klara and the Sun
East of Eden
Station Eleven
The Hero of the Ages (Mistborn series)
Every Atom Leaves (gifted by @moonhorse)
Lessons in Chemistry
Hour of the Wolf
John of John
The Nuremberg Women
Midnight Train

Just arrived: Every Atom Leaves by Peter Vijen from @moonhorse.press.

Moonhorse Press is an independent imprint publishing literary fiction that focuses on works produced in English. They publish slowly - with intention - for slow readers. When choosing books, they choose from a small list with careful consideration to ensure that each book earns its length, silence, and attention. This offers readers time to sit with the text and reflect.

They are interested in writers who come to the English language from somewhere else, and in the kind of attention that produces.

“The language a writer arrives at is rarely the one they were born into. It’s sharper, quieter, more considered. That distance, between a writer and the language they have chosen, is often where the best sentences come from.”

Although English is my first language, I resonate with the above statement considerably, as I am lover of the German, having studied it thoroughly and consistently for six years, but having arrived to it when I was six years old. When you decide to study a new language, you study how that language is formed, how it’s produced, where it came from, how it’s developed over time. I know more about how the German language is crafted than I do my native language and it’s because I treat German with more intention.

I’m excited to begin this journey with Vijgen and Moonhorse and to take you all with me.
