Some thoughts on Pachamama and Her spirals 🌀, the shared history between Khalil and all of the organizers behind Khalil’s Friends, and reflections on @communitychurchny’s Community Conversation with @drmohamedabdou1492, which I attended on Thursday. You can read the full piece at substack.com/mamaayllu. I don’t post there often, but I’ve decided that whatever 🤑 the blog does bring in will be donated to the Zeyaras - I think this will help me write more often, and it’s another low-lift/low price point way to get involved in supporting Khalil & fam. On Mama Ayllu, you’ll find research and reflections on mutual aid and organizing, apocalypse parenting, how to make psychotherapy suck less, and what kinds of relational skills we need to be practicing in order to be useful and of service to our kin who bear the brunt of colonial violence.

If you want to spend some time with us IRL, there are three more opportunities to do so:
💃🔮Thursday October 22 - @janisxluna will be reading tarot and offering remedies and spiritual consultation at @jemexperiencenyc. Sit for a reading and then let the medicine flow while you dance it out to queer AfroLatina beats
👻🍃Sunday October 25 at 1pm at Astoria Park - we’ll be gathering for our Plant Walk for Palestine led by @doll.herbalism, followed by an altar build and ceremony led by @janisxluna
🫂♥️Monday October 26 6pm EST our VIRTUAL Khalil’s Friends Community Mental Health monthly meet up series begins. Sliding scale $20-$50, bring all your feels about The State of the World™️ & practice moving through them and channeling them effectively together.

Beautiful art is on the first slide by @missingcosmonaut, who helped us spread the word about Khalil last year, and last slide our WhatsApp group QR code. Join us to learn more about how you can get involved & help us support the Zeyaras through this fourth winter resisting gen o cide in 🍉

“Go too far again and again.” Poetics by @sonjaringo (slide 1), @moontwerk (slide 2), @fatalentries (slide 3), and @j_ee__s___oo (slide 4).

Poetry is everywhere — digital, text, found, and more. We are a place showcasing the many realms of poetry and place.

Image descriptions:

Image 1 — A plain white background with large black sans-serif text set as a justified block, so the words in each line are spread out. It reads, “all of the micro plastics in me are singing old folk songs about the earth.” The author credit, “sonja ringo,” appears in small italics in the lower left.

Image 2 — A screenshot of a messaging app in dark mode, under a “Yesterday” label. It shows a photo of a kitchen glowing orange as the sun shines through a window, sending rays of light across the cabinets, counter and dishes. Below the photo are two messages sent at 11:01 PM: “that’s you” and “I love you so much.”

Image 3 — A grainy, photocopied black-and-white image and text. On the left is a speckled photo of a woman in a 1950s pin-up style, with dark shoulder-length hair, looking at the camera over a raised bare shoulder. On the right, uneven stencil-style capital letters read: “SPEAK OUT OF TURN, STUMBLE THROUGH IT, BLUSH. GO TOO FAR AGAIN AND AGAIN.” The last few words step down the page diagonally.

Image 4 — A screenshot from the Nintendo 64 game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Link, in his green tunic with a blue shield on his back, stands in a misty, grassy graveyard facing Sheik, a figure in blue and white with a wrapped head. His glowing fairy companion floats above. A dialogue box at the bottom begins “The flow of time is always cruel... It’s speed seems different for each person, but no one can change it…”

hard posting for the people in the back 📌

im not suggesting everyone in the world should join us over here at @khalilfriends

as a matter of fact i think it's best for people in general to organize with people they know and trust, form close tight knit affinity groups with your friends. not based solely on political ideology, or even physical proximity

i naturally came to be in a part of khalilsfriends after going through my own bouts of bullshit emotional manipulation in 2018, and overall disillusionment with nyc organizing (the nail in the coffin for me was summer of 2020, iykyk).

for a long time i felt ostracized, but still yearning for a place to direct my energy and make a real difference. eventually i found people who felt the same way i did, we found affinity based on a shared set of skills, values and desires that just happened to work well together. needless to say its been a learning experience for me and i wouldn't be the bad bitch i am today had this not happened, in fact the bad bitch was already in me and just waiting to make her debut 💅🏽

this is a whole ass coven, apothecary, mixing studio and support group for tired angry forlon moms punks queers and femmes just as much as it is a mutual aid collective for our dear friend khalil 🖤

khalilsfriends is always here if you're looking for that kind of place, either to take part in, support or simply take inspiration from: on what solidarity can look like without masters, when you take matters into your own hands guided by ancestral divination, alchemy and pure will power 🪄

Please excuse the tired mom aesthetic 😅 but it is #indigenouspeoplesday and I’ve spent all day out in the sun with my kiddo ☀️

Just wanted to update y’all about some upcoming ceremonies and gatherings, starting with:

👻🌱Sunday OCT 25 at 1pm - Our second annual Ghostoria Park Plant Walk & Altar Build! Join us for a spooky haunted plant walk and learn the colonial history - and history of resistance - of Astoria Park, led by @doll.herbalism! After we walk, we’ll build an altar together, sing to Aymara resistance fighter and martyr Bartolina Sisa, and drink warm spiced chicha morada together. Suggested donation $45, with $25-$75 sliding scale.

❤️‍🔥🫂Monday OCT 26 at 6pm-7:30 EST - Our first Khalil’s Friends Community Mental Health Virtual Meet Up for WhatsApp from members. We’ll discuss themes of grief and gratitude while living through polycrisis, channeling sacred rage into solidarity and movement work, and how to shake off despair and learned helplessness to keep showing up for our people. It’s $20-$50 to join the WhatsApp community group, which offers monthly mental health check ins like this. If the date/time doesn’t work for you, considering sending a donation anyway, and I’ll send you a personalized spiritual self-care care package with items from our Sweets & Spells apothecary. Space is limited; Venmo @janisxluna with your donation and “10/26 donation for Khalil” in the note.

💃✨Sunday NOV 1 Calling All Souls - @moontwerk and @janisxluna will be hosting our second Tea Ceremony & Movement Salon at @luxuriatelab. Since we land so close to Halloween/Day of the Dead/All Soul’s Day, the theme of November’s salon is ancestral veneration. Build an altar with us, and bring a photo of an ancestor and an offering. We’ll be serving herbal teas that support dream work, getting to know plants that help us connect to our ancestors, engaging in a communal guided meditation, and then dancing before the altar as an offering of sensuous aliveness to ask for the blessing of those who have passed on.

As always, 100% of what we raise from our ceremonies and gatherings is donated to the Zeyaras’ survival fund. We hope y

THE LIBRA NEW MOON / UNDERNEATH PRETTY (link to full transmission in bio 🌜🌚🌛 On the surface a Libra New Moon appears to be a balm amidst conflict. A cardinal sign, one of the world axis points that symbolizes huge momentum for new beginnings, intiations, impetus for growth, Libra is ruled by Venus, taking grace, harmony & yes, beauty, to new levels, with these values having deep roots, or at least this is the power of Libra (& Venus). However beauty & all her ah-hem, handmaidens, have been extracted and colonized by systemic oppression in almost every culture. So when we experience a Libra New Moon during a Venus Retrograde, one that spends most of it’s time in Scorpio (Venus is actually in Scorpio for 11 weeks this cycle), the power of beauty left behind or subjugated has ample time to contemplate (& activate) revenge.
•
A retrograde period (Mercury goes retrograde in fairly close company in Scorpio on October 24) is not one for compulsive or even considered engagement, but it IS time for galvanizing, centering & implementing strategies for raising numbers, a call to arms. Later in October Venus will come into opposition with Chiron (the cultural wound) & both will square Pluto. This is close to the end of the retrograde, close enough to begin to stoke the fire of real revolution, whatever this means to you. PAY ATTENTION & GET READY 🔥
•
For now, taking the time to clear your altar. Be as precise as possible what you lay back on it. Do not listen to outside voices, your inside voice should be strong enough.
•
Let me know how you are, much love & embrace xo Kathe #lovetoloveyou #libranewmoon #prettyisasprettydoes #freepalestine🇵🇸

We love our friend so much!!! 🥹🥹

Khalil asked me to help him with a new project to tide us through the slower winter months. We’re working on building a WhatsApp community of folks who are committed to donating monthly ($20-$50 sliding scale, or more for folks who can afford it!).

In return you’ll get updates about about Khalil & his family & all our events, occasional care packages from our table, and I’ll be hosting a monthly virtual mental health check in for community members to share space and support each other through strange and turbulent times.

When we first started talking about this, Khalil emphasized to me how much he didn’t want this ask to put too much pressure on anyone financially - and how much he wants to make sure the organizers working hard for him here also get time to rest. Our starting goal therefore is to call together a group of 10-20 people committed to donating a little each month. Khalil’s Friends, as a collective, is made up of queers, punks, artists, and hardworking mamas, and as marginalized creatives living in the belly of the beast, many of us are un- or underemployed, so we know the strain of making ends meet here. Still, when we come together as ayllu (family) to be in right relationship with our beloved kin in Gza, we are MIGHTY. In the past week alone we managed to pull together enough money in less than 48 hours to keep the Zeyaras securely housed, for now. So I know we can do this; so far, our efforts have been so blessed, and we would love for you to be part of the collective effort and magic.

If you’re interested (or know someone who might be), let me know and I’ll send you the WhatsApp community link! 💕✨ Thanks, or as Lucito says, “shuuuuuuukran!” 😇🥰
