My new album ‘A Shimmering’ is out now! It’s such a beautiful feeling knowing it’s out in the world. I’ve been working on it for so long and have poured all parts of myself deeply into it. I remember in Oct 23 saying to myself I need to go away and go deeper into my practice. I wanted to simplify what I do, dig into the primacy of voice more, play more instruments, be more intuitive, prioritise joy and involve other people. Standing on the summit now of what I set out for myself I can say happily that I’ve achieved those goals with many scenic detours, obstacles and surprises along the way making the journey all the more rewarding. This is the record I wanted to hear myself and it’s a total privilege to add art I feel this way about to the art that exists in this world of ours. It’s enriched me and vampired me at times but the drive and desire to articulate all the impulses never swayed. This calling is a mysterious thing. I’ve tried to be the best funnel for its flow. I’ve been a seeking, and these 9 songs will attest to that grá mór Gav Written, recorded, mixed and produced by Gavin Murray (Trick Mist) at home, above Plugd Records and at Dan Walsh’s studio in Cork City (Oct 23 - Feb 26) Made with recordings of voice, bodhrán, tin whistle, banjo, bansuri, low whistle, flutes, shruti box, accordion, harmonica and electric guitar performed by Gavin Murray Saxophone on ‘Muck’, bansuri on ‘Grace The Space’ and ‘Banshee Bones’, fife, saxophone and flute on ‘Data’ by @danwalshdoesdrum Backing Vocals on ‘Muck’ and Fiddle on ‘Silver Branch’ and ‘Data’ by @ninidalt Backing Vocals on ‘A Shimmering’ by @hilaryomahony Mastered by @fitztony Art direction and photography by Gavin Murray Front cover photo by @micheal___k_ Design and layout by Sara Leslie @morimaker Thanks to: Hil for the constant everything, Dan and Niamh for sharing their talents generously, Graham and Míchéal for layering on the liminality, @moot_tapes for their support and Luan for walking beautifully on the earth © + ℗ Trick Mist 2026 MOOT027

‘A Shimmering’ my new album is out today! Available on vinyl and digital (bandcamp only) via @moot_tapes To celebrate, ‘Muck’ the 3rd instalment of ‘Sub-liminal’ audio/visual series is here. ‘Sub-liminal’ is a documentation (using filming and field recording) of 5 songs from the new album being played over a portable speaker in ‘liminal’ places which inspired the musics’ creation. I’ve been working on this with film artist @greyeggzandham and sound recordist @micheal___k_ Each video features a speaker in an outdoor setting which I regard as a liminal space. The song will play over the speaker and the videos document this act as well as visually mapping the environment the speaker finds itself in. The sound of the music playing out of the speaker and the location’s environmental sounds are captured by field-recording.  The project draws on the Irish mythological concept of liminality, traditionally an in-betweenness between realms. The settings share a sense of limbo, unease and ambiguity posing questions about the housing crisis, notions of progress, the environment and our mythology. ‘Muck’ full video link in bio a song exploring the mystery of existence finds resonance in The Magic Road - where Cars defy gravity and roll up the Hill. In this case a Toyota Starlet with a speaker strapped onto its roof. It’s a place that’s a battleground between humans’ desire to explain everything and revelling in the wonder of the unexplainable. The song presents an abstract re-imagining of sean nós singing featuring backing vocals by @ninidalt. Here characteristic ornamentation becomes the melody line as opposed to a decorative ‘grace note’. Unlike traditional Sean nós, which is often sung loudly to carry across unamplified social settings like pubs, ‘Muck’ uses close-micing to achieve a distinctly quiet, intimate sound. Album launch shows Fri 9th Oct @bold.frontiers Festival Dundalk Fri 16th Oct @dalicork Cork (@dosecork presents) Sat 17th Oct @pharmaciabar Limerick (@l.a.s.a._lk ) More TBA Hope to see you out there Major thanks to Daire O Shea for letting me strap a speaker on top of his car Supported by Louth County Council @lccartsoffice

Trick Mist is Cork-based artist and multi instrumentalist musician Gavin Murray. His music channels traditional Irish music through an abstract prism conjuring a contemplative liminal landscape between reality and imagination. Shaped by a love of sean-nós singing, experimental sound processing, colloquial absurdist lyrics and the writings of Irish mystic John Moriarty his music forges an environment that is simultaneously familiar and transcendent. The album ‘A Shimmering’ is out on @moot_tapes this Friday, 9th October. It emerged from a series of experiments teasing out notions of ‘abstract trad’ (digitally processing and expanding the range and function of trad-associated instruments and sean nós singing) and ‘primal electronica’ (soundscapes which reference electronica but which are made with acoustic instruments). Featuring collaborations with Dan Walsh (Fixity) and Niamh Dalton (Ana Palindrome), the album, inspired by the Irish mythological concept of ‘liminal space’, aims to subvert trad’s connection to the past instead telling cautionary tales about the future. Trick Mist plays Dali next Friday, 16th October, accompanied by Dan Walsh and Niamh Dalton. Tickets available via RA. Art by @w______ren

Recently had a chat on @roryhearne01 @tortoiseshack ‘s podcast Reboot Republic to talk about the ‘Sub-liminal’ series and the song/video for Part 1 ‘Gap’ and how it relates to the housing crisis. Rory’s book ‘Gaffs: why no one can get a house, and what we can do about it’ was an inspiration to the project (very much recommend) so was fairly surreal/full circle to be invited onto one of my favourite podcasts to discuss my work. You can listen back now For fans of: the housing crisis, Irish mythology, liminality (both wondrous and problematic), societal failure and Hope Wee clip here discussing the housing crisis’ generational fracture and the videos re-contextualisation of Átha Fherdia (the tragic mythological river site from The Tàin where friends/enemies Cú Chulainn and Ferdia did battle) PS albums is out in 2 weeks Pre order LP @moot_tapes

‘Rattling Stones’ the 2nd instalment of ‘Sub-liminal’ a 5 part audio/visual series I’ve been working on with film artist @greyeggzandham and sound recordist @micheal___k_ is here! Sub-liminal’ is a documentation (using filming and field recording) of 5 songs from my new album (out 9/10/26 via @moot_tapes preorder link in bio) being played over a portable speaker in ‘liminal’ places which inspired the musics’ creation.  Each video features a speaker in an outdoor setting which I regard as a liminal space. ‘Rattling Stones’ is an emotional yearning for change. An inter-dimensional dreaming drawing a parallel between the overlooking of entire generations affected by the housing crisis and the neglected landscape of an important Irish mythological site. Featuring Átha Ferdia: The mythological site from The Táin where friends/enemies Cú Chulainn and Ferdia did battle, the heron as a symbol of transformation and a ritualistic meeting of fire and water in a river.  Full video link in bio NEXT WEEK the series will be exclusively screened in full followed by Q+A’s: Wed 9th Sept, @testscreen Limerick Thur 10th Sept, @roeriverbooks.ie Dundalk Fri 11th Sept, @testsiteproject Cork Hope to see you there More to follow Supported by Louth County Council’s Art Office @lccartsoffice

Delighted to present my new audio/visual series ‘Sub-liminal’ in full at @roeriverbooks.ie Dundalk Thur 10th Sept 7pm Sub-liminal’ is a documentation (using filming and field recording) of 5 songs from my new album (out 9/10/26 via @moot_tapes preorder in bio) being played over a portable speaker in ‘liminal’ places which inspired the musics’ creation.  A collaboration between myself, film artist @greyeggzandham and sound recordist @micheal___k_ The project draws on the Irish mythological concept of liminality, traditionally an in-betweenness between realms. The settings share a sense of limbo, unease and ambiguity posing questions about the housing crisis, notions of progress, the environment and our mythology. The settings include; A derelict site, Ardee bog, Átha Ferdia: The mythological river site from The Táin where Cú Chulainn and Ferdia did battle, The Ardee ‘link road’ (N33), Bathtubs in fields and The Magic Road.  Louth is the spiritual home of this project so it feels so very special and fitting for it to screen to a local audience at Roe River Books in Dundalk. A space dedicated to imagination, community and discussion. The majority of the sites are very close to where I’m from : Átha Ferdia, Cú Chulainn and Ferdia’s statue, Ferdias grave, Ardee bog, the river Dee, the link road and a few stray bathtubs in fields. Activations of these spaces I hope breeds some re-enchantment. It certainly did for me anyway. After the screening Tom Muckian will host a Q+A with artists Poster by @davidmnnn Massive thanks to Louth County Council’s Art Office @lccartsoffice for supporting the project

So excited to present my new audio/visual series ‘Sub-liminal’ in full at @testsiteproject Cork Fri 11th Sept 7pm €5 on the door Sub-liminal’ is a documentation (using filming and field recording) of 5 songs from my new album (out 9/10/26 via @moot_tapes preorder in bio) being played over a portable speaker in ‘liminal’ places which inspired the musics’ creation.  The project draws on the Irish mythological concept of liminality, traditionally an in-betweenness between realms. It’s a beautifully suited venue given it’s an outdoor space, a derelict space reclaimed for the community, a cultural public space for art, discussion and ecology. An alignment between the liminal spaces which inspired the album and are explored in depth in the series and TEST SITE’s activation in Kyrl’s Quay post industrial landscape. The audience will be simultaneously immersed in liminal spaces both on and off screen. After the screening Ailbhe Cunningham @amplespacearchitecture will host a Q+A with artists : @greyeggzandham , @micheal___k_ and myself Poster by @davidmnnn Supported by Louth County Council’s Art Office @lccartsoffice
