Clean to the naked eye. Covered in dust under a macro lens.

While @theradavist photographs complete bikes from a comfortable distance, where a bit of dirt is perfectly fine, I’m fighting every speck of dust. Before shooting, I clean the parts thoroughly with a microfibre cloth, a brush and whatever else helps. Everything looks clean. Then I open the photos on my screen and there it is again: dust, hairs and lint.

Sure, I could retouch some of it. But anyone who knows me knows I spend about five seconds editing a photo. So I sort through the shots and keep the ones I’m happy with. Completely clean? Look closely enough and you’ll always find something.

What helps you deal with the lint you only notice in the photos?

A macro lens sees everything. Including what could have used a clean before the show.

Few people have been as happy as Vincent @morassiframes when he saw me approaching his bike with my macro lens. He told me how long he had spent polishing the down tube, then masking off the logo and sanding the rest of the frame back to a matte finish. That contrast is difficult to capture on camera. Look closely and the surface isn’t quite as smooth as you might think, but it’s still smooth enough to reflect the colours around it.

Silver and @hopetech purple, right down to the smallest details. Except for the bell, which is brass, of course.

Vincent, next time, please clean the bike first!

From Vienna to North Lancashire, Zimbabwe to London, the BESPOKED x SRAM Inclusivity Scholars 2026 each carry their own story but share one purpose: to make framebuilding more inclusive.

Vincent Morassi @morassiframes builds with the work at the forefront, while stepping into the wider public eye as a queer, non-binary framebuilder and making space for others to do the same.

Harry Prescott @hpbikeproject builds from curiosity, fabrication and a childhood spent making and fixing things - bringing a new generation and a different route into the craft.

Santa Clara @santa_clara_bikes builds from change: leaving Zimbabwe, starting again in Europe and, in his mid-40s, trading a career in music teaching for a future in framebuilding.

Daniel Hoffman @hpbikeproject builds from obsession, pursuing an idea across two continents and a decade of experimentation to explore what natural materials can bring to a performance bicycle.

Together, they are the SRAM Inclusivity Scholars 2026, four builders broadening what framebuilding looks like, who gets to build, and how you find your way into it.

Thank you @sramroad @srammtb for giving these stories space to grow.

Vincent Morassi of @morassiframes is one of this year’s @sramroad Inclusivity Scholars.

Based in Vienna, Vincent has been building from their own workshop for the past six years, specialising in custom steel and stainless-steel frames across all kinds of two-wheelers.

For Vincent, the Scholarship is an opportunity to put their work in front of a wider audience, while being part of the framebuilding community exactly as they are.

See Vincent’s work at BESPOKED Dresden, 11-13 September.

Huge thanks to SRAM for continuing to support the Inclusivity Scholarship and the builders behind it.
