For a long time, I thought I was falling behind. I’d done the things I thought I was supposed to do, but I still felt lost. Starting a podcast wasn’t part of the plan. I just wanted to have conversations that helped me, and hopefully someone else, feel a little less alone.

I had no idea where it would lead.

Looking back, I wish I’d given myself permission to start before I felt ready. To try something without knowing exactly what it would become.

If you’re in that place right now, I hope this makes you feel a little less behind.

And if that thing you’ve been wanting to start is a podcast, comment “APPLY” and I’ll personally reach out 🫶💖

A year ago, Segment 3 broke Chris.

He filmed himself on that trail in tears.

This year he came back to the same climb with a different mind, and he crushed it.

That’s what CH127 is for. To show you that you’re capable of so much more than you think.

“Men and women for and with others.”

This is deeply ingrained in me from the College of the Holy Cross. On campus, it was a foundational standard for how professors, coaches, and students interacted, and a core piece of my alma mater’s Christian mission. It’s something I’ve been living more intentionally each day as I become more conscious of who I am and how I can impact the people around me.

Cresthooch 127 was surreal. I didn’t run an ultramarathon this weekend. I didn’t crew a team or set up the race. I simply showed up for others.

I shared my energy. I tried to observe, acknowledge, encourage, support, and congratulate. To remind someone who was hurting that they weren’t alone. To turn a moment of weakness into a moment of strength. To be a friendly face in the middle of the chaos. To celebrate someone when they needed someone to celebrate with. And to close the gap between isolated runners in the mountains and fellow human beings.

To be for and with others.

Sometimes it simply means showing up, giving what you have, and helping carry someone else when they need it.

Humans are capable of extraordinary things. To the men and women who took on 127 miles, I tip my cap to you.
