Struggling to keep your voice strong and consistent as you sing higher? 🎶

If your high notes tend to sound weak, breathy, or unstable, you might not need to push harder. You might just need to change how you’re practicing.

Here are 3 things to try:

1️⃣ Top-down exercises: Instead of always working your way up to higher notes, start higher in your comfortable range and work your way down.

2️⃣ Vowel modification: Small adjustments to your vowel shapes can help you maintain better coordination as you sing higher.

3️⃣ SOVT exercises: Vocalize challenging passages through the Better Voice Vocal Trainer before singing them normally. Its adjustable resistance creates gentle back pressure to support more efficient vocal coordination.

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced singer, incorporating these techniques into your practice can help you work toward stronger, smoother, and more consistent high notes.

🎤 Ready to take your vocal warmups to the next level? Try the Better Voice Vocal Trainer today!

This is part of our Vocal Trainer Follow-Along Series, with a new exercise to practice each month!

Save this video and come back to it whenever you’re ready for some vocal practice.

Today we’re practicing octave scales using the Vocal Trainer. Make an “ooh” sound into your Vocal Trainer as you follow each note of the scale.

We’ll start low and gradually work higher, so jump in when we reach a comfortable part of your range. If we move outside your comfortable range, stop and join back in as we work our way down.

As you go, focus on keeping a nice, steady airflow, and feel free to adjust the resistance on your Vocal Trainer as needed.

A challenging song doesn’t always need more repetition. Sometimes it needs a better way to practice.

Instead of singing the same difficult section over and over, try breaking it down and working through the melody with the Better Voice Vocal Trainer first.

The Vocal Trainer creates adjustable resistance as you vocalize, giving you the benefits of semi-occluded vocal tract (SOVT) exercises and helping your voice work more efficiently as you practice challenging notes and transitions.

Then take it away, add the lyrics back in, and sing the section again.

If there’s still a spot giving you trouble, go back to the Vocal Trainer and work through it again.

If singing feels like it’s all happening in your throat, try shifting your focus to resonance. 🎶

Lip trills are a great place to start, but the Better Voice Vocal Trainer takes it a step further with consistent, adjustable resistance that helps you find a more balanced, efficient sound.

As you vocalize, notice where you feel the vibrations. Around your lips? Nose? Cheekbones? The goal isn’t to force the sound forward—it’s to let those sensations give you feedback as your voice becomes freer and more resonant.

Try it and let us know below: where do you feel your voice resonate the most? 👇
