This week, I’m honored to spotlight Chris Vaughn, owner and CEO of More On The Bar Powerlifting! 🏋️

I’ve had the privilege of calling Chris a brother, and watching him build something special. Powerlifters are notorious for being slow in the gym. We hear about the 3 to 4 hour training sessions all the time.

But most of the time people are wasting a ton of time talking, resting too long, and spending too much time on their phones.

If your secondary bench day is taking 2 to 3 hours you definitely aren’t putting in the effort or intensity needed for that day to have benefit.

This is not to say you should be rushing through training or not taking proper warm ups or rest. Besides a super heavy set or a near max attempt you do not need more than 5-8 minutes of rest between sets
And you definitely don’t need 5 minutes of rest between bicep curls.

Be focused, intense and give effort every session and the results will come much fast.

2026 PLA King of Kilos Meet Recap

Squat: 200kg (+15kg meet PR)
Bench: 137.5kg
Deadlift: 225kg (+5kg meet PR)

Total: 562.5kg (+5kg meet PR) | 8/9 @ BW 81.7kg

2025 wasn’t my best year. Between a shoulder injury and life outside the gym, competing wasn’t really a priority. Coming into this meet, the goal wasn’t to chase numbers, instead I just wanted to enjoy being back on the platform, stay composed, and execute.

Left some kilos on the platform (and my rear delt off the bench pad on my 3rd attempt 💀), but we still walked away with a small total PR.

Shoutout to my coach @word_is_vaughn for dealing with my fragile shoulders, silly mistakes, and a casual fever & flu 2 weeks out 😂. Thanks to my family @d7un @montha_p @alyssalmt and girlfriend @baotramm.t 🫶 for all the support along the way.

After years of dreading meet day, this was the first meet I’ve genuinely enjoyed, and it is the first time I’ve walked away excited for the next one.

Won my first powerlifting meet 🏆

I just want to start by saying thank you to everyone who supported me along the way. This didn’t happen alone.

To my coach @word_is_vaughn , thank you for your patience, for believing in me even when I didn’t believe in myself, and for constantly reminding me not to talk down on myself. You’ve shown me that even if I fall short one day, I come back stronger the next.

To my best friend @kamilahmelson_ ,thank you for being by my side through all of it. My number one, always. 🙏🏽

To my work fam @empyre_fitness , thank you for listening to me complain, celebrate, cry, and push through every phase of this journey, you guys really held me down.

And to one of my favorite people @austinrogersfitness thank you for building me up before powerlifting was even a thought, supporting my decision to pivot, and reminding me the entire time that I am my biggest opponent, and that I’m capable of anything I’m willing to work for.

This is just the beginning… and I’m so ready for what’s next.

Last lift before regionals is done. This prep hasn't gone according to plan but nothing can be done to change that. I'm grateful for the support of my family, my coach, and team helping me keep the spirits high and focused on the goal. Ready to head to Vegas and lift some heavy circles!
