Gouache on pergamenata, created for @afterdarkrva ‘s Drinkers and Dragons event in Carytown.

Hyewysshi got turned into a lovely lil collectible card along with many other dragon friends from local Richmond artists. It was very fun to run into folks who were collecting her and meet some of the other card artists.

As our dragon Hyewysshi is a time traveler, this piece combines the “Insular” illumination styles of Ireland and Britain from the 6th to 9th centuries, the detailed “trompe l’oeil’ floral borders of 15th & 16th century Flemish manuscripts, and black linework and crosshatching based on manuscripts towards the age of the printing press, particularly the print works of Albrecht Durer, whose Rhinoceros lent Hyewysshi some scales.

Hampton Convention… DONE! 👏 So many puppies, lots of coffee, weird (and cool) street names, daily 0.5 photos, lots of buzzing sounds and even clowns, too… meme at the end is how I felt when I got home to my cat ✨ Thank you @morganklassett and @terry__downs for letting me tag along to help! 💞
